Chapter: F O U R
“It’s my daughter and my life we’re talking about here” –Tavi
I woke up the next morning and my head was pounding out of control. The minute I turned over I could feel the soreness growing between my legs and my back aching. Once I tired my best to get up, I sat at the edge of the bed and looked down towards the floor at my clothes.
I picked my shirt up and threw it over my head and onto my naked body to cover myself from the morning cold. I got up and walked out of the guest bedroom and into the master bedroom to see Rashad in a deep slumber. I tip toed to the carry on that I used for my flight and went through it to grab the pain pills and my plan B pills just to be on the safe side.
When I came upon the pills I saw a small envelope in the bag and reached for it not remembering putting anything like it in the bag. I looked on one side of the envelope and it was empty and then I turned it to the front side and saw that it was the letter Shayne sent me five years ago.
I sighed and ran my fingers against the ink that was starting to fade away. It was as if, with the ink fading so was the memories, not like we had much anyways.
“What’s that?”
I shot my head up and looked at Rashad as he layed on the other side of the bed, “Nothin’,” I lied.
He mumbled something under his breath and turned back around to go back to sleep. I put the letter back in the carry on and went into the bathroom and started the shower. I popped the pills and took off my shirt and stepped under the steaming hot jets. The water was so hot that I had to step back for a second but the thought of all the filth for last night being washed away made me deal with the heat.
Once I was done I got out and got dressed so that I could pick Addison up from Rasia’s. I was dreading the whole thing because even though Rasia said Chris made her talk to me I knew he still had a few words that I would have to deal with.
I got out of my car when I pulled into the estate and got out. Before I could ring the doorbell the door opened and the last person I was expecting to see appeared looking like she was about to leave.
Aniya and I shared a glance before I took her place in the doorway and went into the house. She closed the door behind her and I followed the sound of Addison’s laugh. I walked into the living room and saw her and Rico on the couch playing video games.
“Since when did you like video games?” I placed my hand on my hip and smiled.
She looked towards me and jumped off the couch and attacked me with a hug, “Mommy, I missed you,”
Addison was dressed in the clothes I sent her over here with last night. She had on True Religion denim shorts, a red True Religion t-shirt and the bred 11’s to match.
