Chapter: T H I R T E E N
“Addison is not a mistake but I just wish she would’ve come at a better time.” –Tavi
“Okay what’s your full name?” I asked Addison as I flipped her grilled cheese in the skillet.
“Addison Ella Livingston,” She answered. I like to make sure she knows her information so that if something ever happens she can tell someone who she is and where she lives. “I’m from Atlanta, Georgia and my mommy’s name is Tavi Torres and my daddy’s name is Shayne Livingston,”
“Good job,” I cheesed, “And you only tell people this when you need help… Like if something happens to me and you don’t know where you’re at or where to go, okay?”
She nodded her head, “How come you don’t have the same last name as me and my daddy?”
“Because we’re not married…”
“What does married mean?” Addison asked as she colored in her Dora coloring book.
“It’s when two people who love each other, promises to each other that they’ll always love and be there for one another,” I answered her question to the best of my ability. She’s only five and can only understand so much, but she’s very smart for her age, so I’m able to explain things to her and her catch on quickly.
“When people get married do they have babies?” She went on.
I nodded my head, “Yes, and it should be the only time you have babies…”
“So, can you marry my daddy again so that you can have another baby? I want a twin,” She asked looking at me intently.
I couldn’t help to laugh, “First of all, you have to be born with someone else to be a twin… and secondly, your daddy and I were never married and we’ll never be married,”
“Is it because you don’t love my daddy? Or because you love Rashad more then my daddy?” She exhaustedly asked.
I rolled my eyes and handed her the grilled cheese, “Why do you ask so many questions?”
She put her crayons down and started eating, “Aunt Loren said that when you ask a lot of question you learn a lot of things and become smarter… I wanna be really really smart when I grow up,”
“And you will be…” I smiled at her. “Just don’t ask questions like that… They’re annoying and a little rude,” I spoke honestly to her. I know as a mother you should sugar coat things when talking to someone her age, but I just can’t bring myself to do that. I’d rather just tell her the truth and leave it like that.
