"This is such bullshit," Viv grumbled, scuffing her feet on the floor.
"We're going to tell you everything we can," Alice mocked Agent Murray, aggressively rolling her eyes. "Yeah right, they didn't tell us anything. All they told us was that there may be, could be a serial killer here in Seattle."
"To be fair, this is Seattle, there's like almost always a serial killer here."
"Yes, Vivian, you're right." Jules sighed, glaring at her. "But this potential one could actually be a threat to us."
"Is anyone else going back over everything that's happened since Georgia died and trying to find any possible clue we might have missed?"
"I mean, I've been doing that every day since we found out, but now I'm questioning everything." Penny smiled sadly in response to Alice's question.
"Girls, you can come in now." Agent Murray smiled at them, holding the door to the study open for them. The four girls walked in, looking at each other and not sure what to expect. They had no idea how they could possibly help with this investigation.
"Thank you for taking the time to talk with us." Agent Sanders smiled politely at them, trying to make them more at ease as he flipped to a new page in his notebook. The girls sat down, looking at him skeptically before glancing at each other.
"I can tell your nervous and that's okay, but there's no reason to be nervous, I promise." Agent Murray consoled them, looking startled when Alice let out a snort. Agent Murray's gaze zeroed in on her, silently question her.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Alice smiled sarcastically, completely over talking to them already. "It's just that that's the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard."
"Excuse me?" Both agents looked taken aback, Agent Sanders leaning forward with his eyebrows drawn down.
"There's no reason to be nervous? You promise me that? So, you can promise me that there isn't a fucking serial killer in Seattle right now who murdered my sorority sister for reasons unknown? You can promise me that he wasn't targeting her, and it had nothing to do with our sorority and therefore I'm safe? You can promise me she didn't suffer? Can you promise me all these things?"
"No," Agent Murray said quietly, "I can't promise you anything like that."
"That's what I thought," Alice mumbled under her breath, earning a kick in the leg from Penny who shot her a glare.
"Look," Penny sighed, understanding where Alice was coming from but not agreeing with her methods. "We understand that you're here to help figure out what happened and that you can't disclose details of an ongoing investigation and all that crap. But you need to understand that we endured a horrendous tragedy and the only way anyone in this house has been hanging onto an inch of their sanity is with the belief that this wasn't a targeted attack and that the man who did this wasn't a serial killer. You just came in here and shattered that illusion and once again ripped away any semblance of safety and peace of mind we have built up since it happened."
"We want to help you in any way we can," Viv continued when Penny paused. "We will answer your questions with as much honesty and information as we can, and we will do whatever we can to help catch the fucker that did this. But you can't make promises like that. We have every reason to be nervous. Maybe not being in this room with you, but in our lives right now, on our campus? Hell yeah, there's a reason to be nervous."
"You're right, and I'm so sorry. I will make sure to choose my words more carefully next time. I meant you have nothing to be nervous about in this room." After looking at each of the girls to see if they were going to say anything more, Agent Sanders nodded for her to proceed. "Okay, can we get started with some of our questions?"
