Beep. Beep. Beep.

Penny could hear the incessant noise and tried to groan, but no sound came out. She couldn't figure out where she was or remember what happened, all she knows is that she wants someone to turn off that damn beeping noise.

"Do you think she'll wake up soon?" Alice asked, walking into the room with coffees for Penny's parents.

"The doctor says it could take some time. Her body's using this time to heal and try to recover." Penny's mom sniffled, reaching out and squeezing Penny's hand. "She went through too much for her body to know how to handle while awake."

Penny tried to squeeze her mom's hand and let her know she'd be okay, but no matter how badly she wanted to, she couldn't' find the energy to make her fingers move. The voices continued to talk but the started fading away as Penny could feel herself falling back out of consciousness.

"Water." Penny croaked, surprising everyone in the room. She hadn't opened her eyes yet, but her throat ached and her mouth felt like the Sahara Desert as soon as she woke up.

"Oh my god," her mom sobbed, rushing forwards to grab Penny's hand as her dad poured her a cup of water. "Thank God!"

Opening her eyes, Penny saw Alice there along with her parents. She smiled at her dad as she took the cup from him before chugging it, indicating she wanted more because her throat was still too dry to talk.

"How long have I been out?" She handed the cup back to her dad after finishing it, squeezing her mom's hand.

"They found you four days ago. They said you passed out in the ambulance and you've been out ever since then." Penny could tell her dad was trying to be strong and hold back the tears that wanted to spill. She reached out and grabbed his hand, trying to encourage him with a smile that it was okay to cry.

After a few minutes, her parents both stepped back to give her some room. Penny looked down at her body, taking note of the bandage on her arm and around her wrists, the cuts inside her other elbow, and the tenderness in her stomach.

"Fuck," she hissed as she tried to sit up, the tenderness morphing into burning pain. She pulled the blanket back to see a large gauze bandage wrapped around her midsection, tinged pink.

As her parents called a nurse to change the bandages, everything came rushing back to Penny. Daniel kidnapping her. Being tied up to a chair. The pain from the ropes. The drugs. The pain she always felt when they wore off. The cuts and the burn. How swollen her face was. The police. Daniel trying to kill her. The police shooting him. All of it.

"Oh my god," she whispered, reaching up to feel if her face was still tender.

"You have some bruising on your face and your neck, but the swelling wore off." Alice smiled at her, knowing that's what she was thinking about. "As for the other stuff..."

"The cuts and the burns?" Penny prompted, knowing that Alice was hesitant to talk about it. Before Alice could answer her, the doctor walked in.

"Penelope, I'm glad to see that your awake. I don't know how much you remember about what happened to you as you were given high doses of an drug that's known to cause amnesia."

"Yeah, PCP. He told me what it was. I don't remember what happened while I was on it, but I wasn't on it the whole time. I saw what he did to me, and felt it, after it wore off."

"I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Penny. The good news is that while you were out, your body processed all of the remaining PCP out of your system and it's been enough time that you shouldn't feel any cravings for the drug and withdrawal symptoms will be minimal."
