Chapter 23: Leaving the past behind

Angelica's POV 

When I woke the next day it was to be held tighter than ever to Gilgamesh's chest and for once instead of pushing him away I decided to indulge myself and just laid there. It felt nice after having to relive the bad memories yesterday. Just laying here with Gilgamesh made me feel better.
"As cute as you are, Mistress, we have to get up," rumbled Gilgamesh, making me look to see he was looking at me with an actual smile.
"Yeah we still have to look into how to stop me from turning into a spirit" I said with a sigh as I pulled myself up and walked to the set of drawers to get clothes out to wear thankful that I actually had clothes that weren't in my gate of Babylon yet. 

"There you are, you took your time didn't you" scowled a voice as we walked down and I saw Caster there with Kuzuki, Lancer, Bazett and the children. Instantly Medea walked over on unsteady feet and grabbed my pants and babbled about something.
"Look at how much you've grown" I said as I bent down and picked her up on my hip and she squealed in glee.
"This is the new one" said Lancer and I looked at little Bazett Jr before handing Medea to Gilgamesh who surprisingly didn't mind children. Taking the baby that was only a few weeks old I gently let the child hold onto one of my fingers and even though I showed no emotion my face softened a tiny bit.
"So when are you going to give her one of her own?" Lancer teased as he spoke to Gilgamesh.
"Anytime she wants a child after all she is my Mistress and I would never deny her anything" replied Gilgamesh with a slight blush as he looked at Medea.
"That and the fact that you are hopelessly in love with her" commented Ainsworth as she came out to get us.
"I will have you know that I am not hopelessly in love, I am just normally in love" protested Gilgamesh which was a weak argument.
"I never said it was a bad thing after all you're at least nothing like the Gilgamesh from my timeline so make sure you treasure her, we are all going to talk over breakfast" announced Ainsworth and I heard that as I turned and headed into the dinning room not wanting to give Bazett Jr back just yet.
"You can keep holding her if you want no harm done" said Bazett with a smile and I nodded as I sat and Gilgamesh placed Medea next to me. 

"Now we have something of a clue, once tied to a spirit a human can not become a spirit" announced Shirou as we sat down.
"I did some looking this morning and I believe it is talking about a ritual that is both risky and powerful" said Irisviel.
"When we asked about the Von Einzbern archives we were told about a ritual that was only fabled to exist about chaining a human to a spirit and a spirit to a human so if we can figure out how to do this ritual we should be able to get Angelica to be fully human once more and stay that way" Kiritsuga explained.
"I found some scraps about the ritual, you not only need the help of four magi's but also four spirits not including the human and spirit that are getting bound but that's all I could find" explained Sakura.
"Even back in my time this ritual was ancient but I did remember hearing about it. I know you need gems to complete it" said Caster as she picked Medea up who was fussing.
"I know the ritual" said Gilgamesh making us all turn to him and I saw he looked sad, angry and depressed.
"Why didn't you tell us sooner? We could have done it yesterday" said Archer.
"For two reasons the first being that I didn't know we needed this ritual in particular and the second reason is because it has never once been successful" said Gilgamesh.
"How do you know this ritual?" I enquired leaning over and prying his hands apart from where he had been clenching them. 

"I know it because I made it, I once had a friend, but they were killed because of me and a vengeful goddess so I tried to bring their spirit back and bind it to myself but it never succeeded because back then there wasn't enough magi's around so I destroyed most of the ritual and took the secrets to my grave" Gilgamesh sighed.
"It's okay to be upset about that sort of thing," said Lancer.
"I'm not sure if this ritual will work but we can try and do it, it will have to bind Angelica to me and myself to Angelica" Gilgamesh told us.
"Wait, why does it have to be you two? I am not against it or anything but you seem pretty certain about this" said Shirou.
"The spirit and human need to be on the same level of power meaning that anyone less than me will die because of how powerful Angelica is," explained Gilgamesh.
"Then what exactly is it that we need?" Saber asked.
"Melted gold, mercury, a fire amber, a water pearl, an earth quartz, an air crystal, a light diamond and a shadow onyx, then the rest will be up to me," said Gilgamesh.
"Then we all have to fan out and get these things" I said as I got up and handed Bazett Jr to Lancer.
"We are going to contact Waver and Rider, while I am a magi I am not powerful enough to do the ritual" said Kiritsuga and we nodded. Lancer, Bazett and Bazett Jr would be going after the melted gold and mercury. Shirou and Saber would be going after the fire amber, Rin and Archer were going after the water pearl, Sakura and Ainsworth were after the earth quartz, Illya and Berserker the air crystal, Caster, Kuzuki and Medea were after the light diamond leaving me and Gilgamesh to get the shadow onyx.
