Chapter 26: Alternative universe

It was a normal night when Ainsworth decided to tell the others about what happened between herself and her Gilgamesh.
"So what exactly happened?" Sakura asked, looking at her heroic spirit.
"Well I guess I will start at the start" said Ainsworth. 

Ainsworth's POV 

"Unlike in this reality I didn't know at the time that there was a different way to get the holy grail so Gilgamesh ended up killing Illya to take her heart and using Shinji's body to create the holy grail" explained Ainsworth.
"Well that was my actual plan until I saw my Queen" said Gilgamesh kissing Angelica.
"Well in our reality you didn't see me until afterwards and we hit it off" I said.
"What happened first?" Shirou asked.
"I ordered Saber to destroy the holy grail and she did so and only Saber and Gilgamesh stayed in the world" said Archer with a frown.
"We continued on with our lives and Gilgamesh started to court me while Rin started to court Shirou" I continued.
"What happened? I can't exactly think that you would end up like this without a reason" said Sakura.
"No there was a certain thing that happened that tipped the scale and I lost control of my magecraft and that is what ended up helping me to become a heroic spirit sooner rather than later" I explained.
"Was it because of Caster or because of Gilgamesh?" Angelica asked.
"Both, the battle that you had with Caster ended differently with me killing Caster but it was Gilgamesh that pushed me" I sighed not wanting to hurt my counterparts feelings or break their marriage apart.
"Whatever you have to say isn't going to break us apart after all, both Gilgamesh and I know he has an ego and that he wasn't exactly the best person then again neither were we" Angelica said looking at me. 

"Gilgamesh and I were getting ready for our wedding and the day before our wedding I found him in bed with Saber so I lost control," I said.
"Oh my" said Illya.
"Exactly, I lost control and I killed both of them there and then, just like with the guild I had been betrayed once more so I killed them and shrunk back into myself and didn't trust anyone but Shirou I wouldn't even put up with Sakura or Rin anymore" I explained.
"I think I am the reason that Archer and Rin didn't work out but he never blamed me" I continued.
"And I still don't blame you, the other Rin demanded that I choose between Ainsworth and Rin so I chose to stay with my friend and soon to be lover" said Archer squeezing my hand.
"It was just after we started to leave the grail wars behind us finally that it happened, Zoken killed Sakura and Archer was heart broken and I snuck out and killed him and Shinji putting an end to the Matou family" I said.
"I could tell that she was starting to slip up so we moved away from Fuyuki city to an island and I basically became a contract killer," said Archer.
"It was just around then that I found out that my magecraft was getting too powerful and I was turning into a spirit but I didn't tell Archer about the turning into a spirit part" I explained.
"Why not?" Shirou enquired.
"He was off living what he thought was his dream, I didn't want to take that from him and it was hard enough on him already" I said.
"How exactly did you find out you were turning into a spirit?" Gilgamesh questioned.
"I had been pregnant but because of how powerful I was it terminated the baby even before I was five weeks and before I could tell Archer" I said my eyes closed. 

Even though I couldn't show much emotion it still pained me to think of the child that we could have if I hadn't had so much mana. In fact I still had nightmares of feeling the small life within me slipping away.
"We couldn't do anything to stop it" said Archer turned away to hide the tears prickling in his eyes.
"I left a notebook that would release to Archer when I turned into a spirit if that happened and so I continued to not only try and stop the process but to level out my power levels so I could hold a child within me which as you know I managed to do" I said thinking of Yuu and Yui who were sleeping.
"But you didn't manage to stop yourself from becoming a spirit" said Rin and I shook my head.
"No I had overused the gate of Babylon which is a power only gods or part gods should use therefore before long I become a heroic spirit and took my place as the new king of heroes and never seeing archer again at least until Sakura summoned me and well you know what happens after that" I said squeezing Archer's hand. 

Archer's POV 

I could still remember the crushing despair that I felt when I came back one day and Ainsworth was gone. I nearly killed myself that day but I managed to hang on. After that I threw myself into my work and I ignored her journal.
"I ignored everything about Ainsworth including her journal until I was moving one day and I decided to read it and that was when I realised what happened and she gave me all of her work to continue but by that time as you know I was already on the way to become a guardian so by the time I had time to look into her research it wasn't long before I become a guardian putting an end to the research" I explained to them.
"I can understand that," said Shirou.
"Alright enough of this depressing stuff the kids are asleep and we should do the same tomorrow is a big day" said Sakura and everyone agreed. We were all taking a vacation and going to the beach tomorrow with all the kids.
"Gilgamesh, can I talk to you for a moment?" I asked as I got up and he nodded as we went out of his and Angelica's house. 

"What is it?" Gilgamesh asked.
"Look I know that Ainsworth and Angelica are two different people but deep down they are the same so I will only tell you this once, if you dare or even think about doing what your counterpart did, I will kill you before she finds out. I watched her break once and I am not about to watch it happen a second time" I warned him.
"If I done such a thing I would let you kill me, I don't know about my counterpart but Angelica means the world to me so I would rather die or give up all my riches to see her happy" said Gilgamesh and I could sense and tell the honesty in his words and look.
"Good don't forget it" I warned before I headed in to be with Ainsworth. We had ripped open some pretty old wounds tonight but we wanted our friends to know what could happen if they weren't careful. Now though I am confident in saying that these people would not have to suffer like me and Angelica did.
