The Seance (and my scariest experience so far)

"Obviously, wherever we hear a noise we're not going to find anything out by investigating, so let's just fucking chill." Jake said in the most serious and stern voice I've ever heard him speak with in all the time I've lived with the group. "Or..." Sam said immediately, "i don't know what happened last time, but if this place actually is haunted, and it is trying to tell us something, then maybe now is a good time to do that seance thing-" Sam's rash thought was interrupted. "Fuck. That." Corey mumbled. "We came here for one reason and that is to figure out if it's place is haunted. Something is happening right now. Wouldn't this be the best time?" Sam reasoned. I know Corey hates messing with paranormal shit, and for once, i agree with him. But i wasn't going to voice that to Sam.

"If something's fucking with us we might as well try to communicate with it." Jake shrugged. This moment was tense and i could tell Colby was frustrated no one listened to his idea. "I'm not doing a seance!!" Corey protested again. "I don't think we'll get hurt." Jake and Samuel were trying very hard to convince the rest of us. "But after Queen Mary... I don't know if I wanna do that, man." My boyfriend grunted. Even I don't want to think about Queen Mary and I didn't see as much as the boys did. I grabbed his hand gently and held it for a little while. "And at 3am, too? Great idea." I mentally rolled my eyes at Corey's sarcasm.

For what seemed like the billionth time tonight, we talked about what had happened and what we were going to do about it. I stood silently beside colby and out of the camera's frame. This trip wasn't the fun and luxury i hoped it would be. Everything had gone downhill right at 3am. I couldn't take the bickering and lack of decision-making, so I finally piped up. "Are we going to do this or not? 'Cus standing here and obsessing over it isn't doing any good it seems." And before I realized, all the boys were staring at me in shock that I said something for once. "I mean, I don't really want to do this, but if we can get an answer to our questions from it, then don't you think we should do it?" "As long as we all have each other's back, I think we'll be okay." Jake said at the end of his small speech. "Well... I'm in." I said back in my quiet voice. The others gave a nod or a small "yeah" and we headed for the wooden kitchen table for the seance. Little did we know this was the next turning point among our previous paranormal experiences.

Candles burned with a familiar scent as we seated ourselves evenly apart around one end of the table. "We promised in our last video that we were gonna do a seance and... we're gonna do a seance." The blonde drug out the last word into a groan. "Do we want to do the seance? Not really." Colby joked to the camera but it was the truth. "But if we're gonna catch anything it'll be now." Colby was messing around with a lighter and burnt his finger slightly. "Owww," he hissed in pain. I glanced from him to the lighter and snatched in one swift movement. I stuffed it into my hoodie pocket. "Gimme that fricken lighter." He frowned, but then laughed. "Geez Colby, we can't trust you with anything." Sam joked.

Sam read of the instructions on his phone and Corey voiced another concern. They were caught up in talking about how we would perform the ritual but I couldn't help but notice Corey's weird facial expressions toward the chandelier. "Did you guys hear the chandelier creaking or is it just me?" "Yeah, it looks like it's moving." Golbach stated, "that's weird." He immediately went back to his research.

We went over the meaning of this ritual and how it'd work (which were both vague.) Bonuses for getting a good result are being somewhere people died, believing in the ghosts, and creating a "homey" vibe will make them want to talk to us more; we met all the standards. I fiddled with the lighter, which was then stolen by Jake. He distracted us by playing with the flame. Colby took it back and chunked it across the room. "Alright." His smile was warm even though I knew he was kinda scared. "I feel like this is the perfect setting." Colby said which sounded weird the way I took it. "This is like some horror movie shit, bro." Corey scoffed; I agreed, but I was still looking forward to this.
