As hard as it is to believe, Drew Tanaka hadn't always been a jerk. She also hadn't always despised Silena Beauregard. In fact, at a certain point in time, Drew had practically worshiped her older sister. In the years before the Second Titan War, Drew had looked up to her in a way that she had never expected any of her other siblings would understand, and so she kept it secret. Only in her diary did she mention her awe of Silena's confidence to break the cabin tradition of heartbreaking, and her respect for her sister's kind gentleness, all while being a fierce warrior.

That's what made it was so much more heartbreaking when news spread of her betrayal.

Her only role model, the one person who had ever actually bothered to care, was a liar. A traitor. A spy.

It was funny, how one singular act of deception, on treacherous deed, could open the floodgates of doubt about your relationship. How long had she been a spy? Was their entire relationship based on a lie? Had every conversation, every word of encouragement, every piece of advice, been a part of a large web of lies?

When blurred, the truth could become a muddy mess, one that people often drown themselves in trying to make sense of. And so, barely able to keep her head above the sludge, Drew Tanaka made the executive decision to pull herself out and walk away. Without understanding the truth, she would never be able forgive, but by walking away, she was attempting to force herself to forget.

But the trails of mud followed her everywhere she went. Silena had been such a large part of her adolescence, her growth. She couldn't simply forget, no, that was impossible. So she clouded over all her emotions with hate and resentment. Anger, as the easiest emotion to express, is often the emotion that humans default to in times of confusion, and Drew was no exception. So she took every positive memory of her lost sister, and she twisted it and warped it, until all she could remember was a primal sort of hate. She blamed her sister's downfall on her refusal to comply with cabin traditions, something that she used to look up to her for. Every positive became a negative, and as pros became cons, her former idol became the object of her hate.

Everybody noticed the change. Drew wasn't as sweet as Lacy, or as lovable as Mitchell, but she had never necessarily  been mean. But the truths that came to light during the Second Titan War provided an almost overnight change. She had become angry and paranoid, charmspeak becoming her default rather than simply asking. Her rule could've been described as tyrannical, and she never allowed anyone close to her again.

Happy New Year!!!🎉🎊

So recently, the Battle of the Books competition had me rereading the Lightning Thief. Though I've read it multiple times, none were very recent. It was fun, seeing everything in Percy's perspective again, with our original cast of characters. This set off a domino effect, and so I started refreshing my memory of the original series (the original series had a lot more Sally Jackson action, which was great!), and I suddenly got an influx of great ideas. The series never had a full in depth explanation of just how badly the events of the Second Titan War affected the individual campers(probably cause their background characters). For example, have we ever really talked about how Luke's betrayal may have negatively affected the Hermes cabin and everyone who'd been living in it? Like, the cabin is described as basically a hot mess filled with kleptos and strays. And Luke, as Head Counselor, was in charge of keeping it all together. And then one day, it's like, "Yeah so, you're biggest parental figure here tried to kill someone. Oops?" How do you think Travis and Conner reacted to that? I bet a bunch of them were in denial for months! And then when they thought he'd died?! And we all know what happened with Chris.

So yeah. That's probs gonna be the next one shot.

I should probably just finish and publish this, because I should be doing homework, it's a school night, and I've been listening to Taylor Swift for the past 4-5ish hours(minus the random Selena Gomez adds in between, which I low key kinda enjoy).

I hoped you liked that, it's probably trash cause I wrote it on a whim with a massive headache but . . . don't forget to vote, comment, and stay whelmed. Later peeps!
