As I flew over the ground towards the new base, I kept my eyes trained on the ground so I could keep watch on Avery. Avery tilted her head up, and caught my eyes, waving her hand for me to come down. I sighed, and slowly flew towards the ground. I landed next to Avery and asked "Why did you want me to come down?"

"Because we're at the base." She stated. I wrinkled my eyebrows in confusion.

"But I don't see any base." I retorted. Avery chuckled softly, and scraped softly at the forest floor. Suddenly a metal hatch appeared in the ground, along with handles and blinking lights.

"What in the hell is that." I mumured to myself. Avery pulled up the hatch, and climbed in. My heart beat steadily rose, as I clammered in beside her, and looked around at the extremely small space.

"Hey, it's alright. The base is way bigger then this room." Avery mumured comfotingly. I glared at her, as she lead me to an even smaller space. A puff of white smoke came out of white vents, as we walked forward. The metal door slid open, and appeared at least fifteeen metal doors, leading out of probably a 20 foot by 15 foot square room. My jaw dropped open, but then it instantly closed when I saw expierment tables lining the walls. My breath caught in my throat, and I unconsiously took a few steps back. I felt a hand land on my shoulder, and I flinched. The hand instantly pulled away, andI heard a sigh. I closed my eyes as I realized it was Avery who put her hand on my shoulder.

"I'm sorry." I murmured, just loud for her to hear. I looked over at Avery and saw understanding in her eyes. She smiled softly, and lead me to the first door, and it slid open to reveal, what to me, hell. There were dog cages lining the walls, and as my eyes adjusted to the light I saw kids in them.Images raced through my head, of my time in this base. No no No No I thought as I backed up numbly, and raced out of the base. I climbed out of the hatch, and whipped my wings out. I took slow and steady breaths, as I climbed higher and higher. Once I reached a nice altitude my heart rate went back to it's normal pace. I looked down at where the base was, and I saw Avery climb up the ladder. I glared at her, and gave on beat of my wings and took off into the night sky. After at least 30 minutes of flying in the cool, crisp night air, I saw a nice cave in a side of a cliff. I flew down to the cliff and rolled onto the ground. I leaned against the cool rock and slid onto the dusty ground. She knew that, that base would lead to nothing good. Why did I even trust her.. I thought bitterly as I closed my eyes. More images flashed through my mind and my eyes shot open. I let out a soft whimper and a tear slid down my cheek. I let out a sob of relief and pain. I lay down on the ground, pulling my wings over me. I curled into a tiny ball, and cried until I fell asleep.

I awoke when the first, pale beam of sunlight peered over the horizon. I pushed my self off the hard ground, and gave my wings a shake. Above me I saw a flock of hawks fly over the cliff, and I let out a small smile. I stood up and whipped my wings out, soaring into the air. As my wings beat agaisnt the air, I positioned my self in with the hawks. I closed my eyes as peace and freedom washed over me. The hawks and I soared through the air, gaining altitude I flew away from the hawks. As I neared the next town, I flew to the ground and landed in the nearby forest. I walked along in the forest when I spotted a few campers cooking food over their. I smirked when I saw they were heading away from the fire. I licked my lips, and walked over to the fire. "Oooh yummy!" I exclaimed as I picked up one of the omlets the family was making. I bit in to the juicy egg, and my eyes closed as I swallowed. "This is absolutly delicious." I mumbled through the food. I heard a stick crack a little ways ahead of me, and I scurried out of the clearing. I finished my omlet in a few famished gulps. My wings whipped out and I soared into the air.
