Part 13

Elijah burst out laughing.

"Nate you are my new favourite person!" He hollered.

I rolled my eyes, a smile making its way to my face.

Nate grinned. "What that nutjob needed it!"
"I know! Poosha? Seriously?! And he was, like, so proud." Elijah said,his voice leaning towards high pitch.

Abigail and I shook our heads. Boys..

"Alright kids." I said,rolling my eyes.

Nathan stuck out his tongue.

I stuck my own back at him.

Abigail face palmed.

"Guys, what do we do now?" Abigail asked,worried.

That sobered all of us.

We sat on my monstrous bed in a circle.

Abigail looked down at the mattress.

"What are the Trials?" She asked, softly.

Nate and I exchanged glances.

We knew exactly what the Trials were. We both grew up with its stories after all.

I sighed as I began the rhyme that most all had learnt.

"The story of the vain king

misfortune it will bring.

For no man or warrior can bear

The fury of Fire,that I have cared to share.

Bear in mind,dear one.

If you anger the Fire,

The sacrifice must be done.

Of daughters and sons,

No bias shall be done.

Remember heritor,if you have
given ear.

Dark and deadly Trials must you face.

Before the end of the year.

Climb the mountains,with no fear

Balance yourself on the cliff of Greer.

If your heart's are lighter than a feather,

Pass through the gates of Greer.

Make your acquaintances,dear heritor,

For you never know the use of the ones dear.

If you, pass these trials.

The Fiery One shall call upon you dear child.

And here must you sacrifice."

I finished.

"So one of us have to....die?" She asked,eyes wide.

I nodded forlornly.

We had no choice whatsoever.

I shook my head slowly.

"We will have to figure it out, guys." I said,softly.

Elijah looked down.

Nate's eyes didn't leave mine.

-You're not going to die- his eyes dug deep into my soul.

I snatched my eyes from him.

We eventually asked for dinner to be served in my room.

We were too tired from the weighing our options.

But we came to our decision.

We had no choice.

We were served with chicken parmesan and lemonade.

We finished lunch and began to walk towards the training rooms.

"Andrea?" Mother called out.

"Yeah?" I asked,switching trails from the corridor to their room.

The three followed.

"You have decided have you not?" Mother asked.

We nodded.

"Well?" Father's voice boomed.

"We have decided to go through with the quest." I said firmly.

"Good." Father said.

I shot my eyes to him. What did he mean...?

"One of you will have to die..you do know that, I presume."Father asked,as if he were asking about the weather.

Nathan narrowed his eyes.

"We do know that Aaron." Nathan snapped.

Father shrugged. What in the world?!

  "Aaron!" Mother said,appalled.

"We don't have a choice, Libra. There isn't anything we can do!" Father replied.

She narrowed her eyes.

But she let it be, and turned to me.

"Andrea..do you remember the white stone embedded box?" She asked.

I nodded.

"That is the Moonstone. If you...if you have to s-sacrifice one of yourselves," her voice caught, before she continued." It has the power to bring back one. But beware. It has the power to bring back only one life and it cannot be used more than once."

My eyes were wide as I nodded my head again.

"Thank you Mother." I said and bowed.

The four of us exited the room and went to sit under the Tree. I wondered if I had any questions.

One popped in my head and I whispered it to the trunk of the tree.

I saw Nate do the same thing.

I furrowed my brow.

He just smiled at me.

Two leaves fell down into each of our respective laps.

I picked mine up.

"What you think may not be true."

I smiled,but I was slightly confused.

May?

I looked to Nate unquestioningly.

A smile was tugging on his full lips.

He noticed my stare and smiled.

He shook his head.

I narrowed my eyes at him.

He shot me a smirk.

I rolled my eyes and lay back down,watching the golden rays meander down from the various leaves and branches that were blocking it.

The calm of the scene brought sleep to my eyes again, and I dozed off,mindless to the fact that we might be going on a journey that all of us might not come from.
