"This is serious, Andrea!" Mother reprimanded.

I shot her a blank look.

Of course it was serious. I was tha last person in Gaisgeach you had to say that sentence to. It was my life on the line. Because everyone knew that I would be giving my life. I would never agree for anybody else's.

But was it too much to ask to just enjoy whatever time I had left before I knew would be too late?

My mother's hazel eyes softened.

We were currently sitting in the treasury.

Huge chandeliers with tear drops of various crystals were hanging above us.

The crown jewels were sitting in cubicles carved out of violet diamonds, the light from the chandeliers reflecting off of them.

And we were sat on cushioned velvet chairs with a mahogany table in between, a silver box sitting on it.

The box had the encrustings of tiny diamonds and Pearl's, glimmering as if winking at our predicament.

Mother had dragged me into the treasury to give me some specific instructions on the usage of the MoonStone.

I sighed.

"It is fine to be afraid A." She said softly, looking at me with grief evident in her face.

" Mommy, I am truly scared. But if I were to show it, it would not only not benefit us in any way whatsoever, but put fear and anxiety in the hearts of Eli and Gail. And I may not have been here for two years, but I would never wish it upon them to feel either." I said, using the word I almost never called out to her in.

She looked pained by my words but masked it.

Both her and I were leaders. I lead my empire. Mother lead all those looking for balance. And it was only her that could understand the sacrifices we had to make.

Which was why she was my only confidant.

Although it caused both of us pain to think of it, it was better than thinking of someone else who was not given responsibility to feel its weight. Which is why my mother and I did not confide in Father. For he sure had grown distant from our return with Nathan. And although Father was ruling, he would only be ruling until I reach the age I can inherit the Throne that is rightfully mine.

The males in our family almost never ruled, unless and until he was the only child. And until the daughter could take up the Throne, either her uncle, father or brother would rule it for her. But once she attained the age he would have to hand the Throne to her.

"You can trust him you know." Mother said

I drew my eyebrows together.

"Nate. You can confide in him. And i am sure he would not complain." She said.

I rolled my eyes.

She smiled knowingly, as if she knew something I didn't. Which was entirely possible.

So I just let it go. It was no use trying to question my mother because she would never thaw.

"What was on the leaf A?" Mother asked, amusement lighting up her eyes.

I grumbled, cheeks turning red.

"It said that he was my equal."

Three months had gone by quickly. We began the journey tomorrow at the crack of dawn, so as to travel faster, and without the judging eyes of the citizens.

Mother had teased me relentlessly about the leaf and I had just rolled my eyes, Nate looking perplexed everytime mother started giggling near his presence.

But here I was. Standing in front of the mirror trying to gain calm.

Lilac mixed with silver eyes stared back at me with thick lashes framing them.

My straight nose sloped to my full, pink lips. And I was very proud to say that I had perfectly made eyebrows without even trying.

The tan colour of my skin had slightly paled thinking of the Trials to come.

But we had no choice. I took a deep breath, and walked out of my room, my big rucksack already carried down
by the kind staff. I had thanked them as they somehow managed to take it down the grand staircase.

My black leather jacket was new, having a hood that I could put on if it were to rain.

I was wearing a tshirt beneath with some black jeans.

Although it would not be the most comfortable it would also be protecting me from scratching my legs on unwanted weeds and whatnot. Not to mention not getting mosquito bites.

Nate appeared in my line of sight with Eli coming behind him. Gail was behind me I presumed and it was confirmed when I looked back.

We made it down, hugging our parents. Well, hugging Mother that is.

We shifted, our clothes merging into our feathers and fur as we grabbed our bags in our talons and shot up after I let out a loud growl.

We flew towards the rising sun, its redness resembling the Deity we were going on a Quest to meet.
