Andrea's POV
We walked down the hallways, our shoes clicking in unison against the floor tiles of the Taigh.
What in the world could Father be calling us for?
We turned around a corner and saw the gigantic, polished mahogany doors that lead to the Throne Room.
Delicate carvings of the River Goddess was drawn onto it. Her hair flowed down in gentle waves and, below, at her feet, were people kneeling down at her greatness.
She was known to be kind, loving and caring. But only so long as her children were not harmed.
The story of how she had become a warrior was engraved onto the bottom of the door.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed the mahogany doors open and walked in.
Father was sitting on his throne. His face a mask of stone, his eyes devoid of any emotion.
What in the world....?
As we walked in, we could see a semi circle of ministers flanking both Mother and Father, around the pond.
Why were we called in between a council meeting?
I tried not to look concerned as I walked in the front, Nathan falling a bit behind. I grabbed his arm and pulled him front, inconspicuously of course.
We walked in front as Elijah and Abigail came behind us, Eli behind me and Abigail behind Nathan.
Mother looked weary,as if she had tried to argue strongly for whatever decision was made before we came in.
I stilled. Bad. The verdict of the Council was bad.
"Welcome, Heritor." The Council said in unison. Oh god, that was so creepy...
The Council was a group of ministers who advised Father, telling them of what the Gaisgeach thought was good for them. The power to make the decision, however was still Father's.
But if he chose to ignore their wishes, no matter what,it would almost definitely trigger them revolting against us.
And so we usually took the advice of the Council.
Which was what scared me the most.
My blood chilled.
I bowed my head to one of the minister's comments. The three were ignored.
Oh he did not.
He merely scowled at my three friends, as if they weren't worth the space they were standing on.
I felt annoyed, but it was not my place to speak. Ugh. One more look from that obnoxious minister and I would pummel his face-
"May we ask why we have been summoned, Emperor Aaron?" Nathan interupted my train of thought, as if knowing that I was at my breaking point.
Father brought his eyes to us. His eyes looked too detached.
I tried locking eyes with my mother but she looked away, purposely not meeting my eye, keeping it on the intricate designs in the glass dome above.
"Emperor?" The same minister asked again. This guy, I swear- "Shall we tell them instead?"
Father snapped his eyes to the old man, giving him a sharp glare. The look looked like it was trying mighty hard on digging into his skin, piercing him to the very bone.
But, as surprising as it was, he was a wise man and quickly shut his damned mouth.
"I hope the four of you remember the story of the Volcano?" Father asked.
My heart beat faster. No no no no-
Nathan narrowed his eyes at Father.
We all nodded, albeit hesitantly.
"The Council and I have come up with a decision. A decision that hopefully is on par with the thoughts of the Gaisgeach." He said, his voice calm.
Nathan drew his eyebrows knotted together.
"The Gaisgeach have a deeply rooted fear. The news of the secret keepers' massacre has reached the public ear. They are growing restless. Small revolts have already started breaking out in the lands. They believe that unless and until the four of you go on the Quest, they will be punished.
'The crops have not yielded their harvests yet. There is a minor drought occurring in the southern part of the land. The rains are late. Although this happens every once in a while, and deep down they know it, the fact that the secretkeepers' have died does not sit well with them. They feel that this is the wrath of the Volcano." He said.
My eyes grew wide.
"The four of you will have to go on the Quest. You shall leave on the dawn of the third day from today. Be prepared." He said.
