Nathan's POV

Adrenaline was surging in my body.

Andrea and I shifted. Or atleast tried to.

No use. So the trial would have to be won by wit and physical, human strength indeed.

We were walking along the opening of the huge hole in the earth.

With every step, dry dusty pebbles and stones slid down the sloping walls.

We kept our words to a minimum, lest we encounter some other  problem we might have to sort out.

As we were walking around, my legs tired after taking five rounds around the huge hole, began trembling.

I looked up to find that my legs weren't the only ones trembling.

The whole world was trembling. Again. Oh for the love of everything sweet and tasty-

Loud thumps and drum heats reached our ears.

Andrea's beautiful eyes locked with mine.

"Earth. The First Trial. Which means.." she began.

"Bandits. Ones with he earth. We have to battle the Meirleach." I said grimly.

She shook her head.

That is impossible and has to be the last resort, Nate.
We cannot battle them, two against The River knows how many.

She spoke in my mind.

What do we do then?

We play a life threatening game of hide and go seek.

Her grim tone echoed in my mind.

I nodded back.

And began the game.

...........☆............

The constant drum beats sent thrills of fear and adrenaline in my veins.

My heart raced as I struggled to gain control of my breathing.

I looked up into the darkening sky.

A distant howl pierced the pulsing air.

Inhale. Exhale.

I focused back to the task at hand.

Andrea and I had been walking for a couple of minutes.

The beats followed us as if taunting us. Trying to lure us out and save ourselves the torture.

We found animal dung on the floor.

Andrea grimaced and nodded at it.

I felt nauseous.

But she sighed and bent down.

Grimacing as if in physical pain, she covered her hands and legs with it.

She shivered from disgust and nodded harshly at the other pile.

I looked at the pile with hatred clear in my face but followed her directions.

Covered in dung we began trekking in the opposite direction as we heard a rustle.

Oh lord.

We both looked at each other and motioned upwards.

Hearts racing we scaled two large oaks.

We were still in the border of the clearing.

But this would have to do.

As I climbed higher up, I finally reached a point where the spines covered me if anyone were to watch from below.
