Slowly I walked to dragon training, not really wanting to go.

I could hear Gobber talking to the new recruits as I arrived. “Welcome to dragon training.”

“No turning back,” a familiar blonde girl announced as she walked out holding her family axe.

Astrid Hofferson; determined, deadly, quick to attack. Do not anger this Viking.

“I hope I get some serious burns.” The blond boy cheered with awe as he held up his spear.

Tuffnut Thorston; Insane, explosive, quick to attack. Do not annoy this Viking.

“I hope for some mauling, like shoulder or lower back.” The twin of the previous Viking stated as she rolled her shoulder.

Ruffnut Thorston; stupid, reckless, quick to attack. Do not threaten this Viking.

“Yeah, it’s only fun if you get a scar out of it,” Astrid drawled sarcastically.

Next to the group was a man with black hair holding a mace.

Snotlout Jorgenson; Big-headed, brut, quick to attack. Do not insult this Viking.

Finally wish the largest of the group holding a simple mallet.

Fishlegs Ingerman; powerful, smart, quick to attack. Do not correct this Viking.

Finally deciding to join I spoke up, “Yeah, no kidding, right? Pain. Love it,” I snarled sarcastically while subcontinuously hiding my own scares.

“Oh great, who let him in?” Tuffnut asked as I rolled my eyes.

“Let’s get started! The recruit who does the best gets the honour of killing their first dragon in front of the entire village,” Gobber announced while using his hook to exaggerate what he was saying.

“That’s going to be me!” Snotlout boasted loudly.

Tuffnut only rolled his eyes as he looked at me, “can I transfer to the lass with the cool Vikings?” He asked as I rolled my eyes.

“Don’t worry you’re small and weak… that’ll make you less of a target. They’ll see you as sick or insane and go after the more Viking like teens instead,” Gobber told me as he laughed and pushed me into line with the others. “Behind these doors are just a few of the many species you’ll learn to fight! The Deadly Nadder!”

“Speed 8, armour 16.” Fishlegs informed excitedly.

Stormfly; Smart, caring, loves chicken.

“The Hideous Zippleback,” Gobber gestured to the next cage where roaring could be heard.

“Plus 11 stealth, time 2,” Fishlegs informed again getting more excited as he went on.

Barf and Belch; Loyal, loving, siblings.

“The Monstrous Nightmare.” Gobber announced while pointing at the middle cage.

“Fire power 15,” Fishlegs informed once gain slightly getting on my nerves.

Hookfang; proud, caring, enjoys a challenge.

“The Terrible Terror,” Gobber gestured to the next cage as he rolled his ‘t’s.

“Attack 8, Venom 12,” Fishlegs practically shouted as he almost jumped.

Sharpshot; Joyful, peaceful, likes sleeping.

“Will you stop that?!” Gobber shouted loudly as he moved to the last cage. “And the Gronkle.” Gobber place his hand on the leaver keeping the cage shut.

“Jaw strength 8,” Fishlegs whispered to me.

Meatlug; kind, lovable, likes relaxing.

“Woah! Woah! Wait, aren't you going to teach us first?!” Snotlout screamed as Gobber swayed his head.

“I believe in learning on the job,” he stated as he pulled down the leaver letting Meatlug out. Naturally she went to eat the rocks left in the cage. “Today is about survival. You get blasted you’re out. Quick, what’s the first thing you’ll need?”

“A rock,” I mumbled quietly while watching the half starving dragon fly about the room.

“Plus 6 speed,” Fishlegs guessed as I rolled my eyes.

“A shield,” Astrid stated.

“Shield, yes! Go get one. If you have to choose between a sword and a shield, always take the shield,” Gobber shouted as the teens ran to collect I shield.

I having already collected one watched Meatlug fly about. She was so hungry.

“Ruffnut, Tuffnut, you’re out!” Gobber announced as Meatlug shot a lava blast at the twins.

“Who can tell me how many shots a Gronkle has?” Gobber asked as I rolled my eyes at the obvious question.

“5?” Snotlout guessed but was corrected by Fishlegs.

“No 6!” He shouted as Gobber pointed at him.

“Correct, that’s no of each of you,” he stated as Meatlug shot Fishlegs’s shield. “Fishlegs, out.”

“Those shields are good for another thing. Noise and plenty of it!” Gobber announced as the remaining recruits started to smash their weapons and shields together.

I didn’t catch what Gobber said next as my sight got fuzzy.

Luckily the recruits didn’t keep at it for long as I was able to refocus.

“Hey, you should come to mine to work out, you look like you work out,” Snotlout flirted as Astrid dodged the incoming attack which hit Snotlout.

“Snotlout out,” Gobber announced as I watched from the corner.

Meatlug sent a blast at Astrid which knocked the shield out of her hand.

She quickly ran away as Meatlug chased after her. She was cornered.

Quickly running forward, I ran in front of Astrid as the blast hit my shield. Astrid quickly ran away as is stood in front of Meatlug.

I held up my hands to calm her but she tried to blast me only being stopped by Gobber grabbing her and throwing her into her cage. “And that’s 6, go back to sleep you overgrown sausage.”

“Remember, dragons always, always go for the kill,” Gobber snarled as I tried not to roll my eyes.

Right cause I’ve killed all of you.

I walked back to the cage as I snuck into the training arena. I could hear the dragons becoming restless as I walked up to the hatch holding Meatlug.

“Hello, I’m sorry about earlier. I’m here to help,” I whispered into the door as I heard her walking towards me.

“Who are you? How do you know our language?” She asked me as the others woke up and listened into our conversation.

“I’m Hiccup, but you’re more likely to know me as Jet,” I answered as whispers sounded around the room.

“Jet, as in the one the Queen wants?” Hoookfang asked me as I shuddered.

“Yes, your Queen is after me,” I answered as I bought out a selection of rocks, chicken and fish. “I have food for you.”

“Why should we trust you, you’re on their side aren’t you?” Meatlug asked me as I shook my head.

“No, I’m on the white king’s side. I do not side with the Vikings, dragon hunters or your Queen. I come from the sanctuary. I would not hurt you,” I explained as I lifted up the hatches and gave them some food. “You don’t have to eat it but, you looked hungry earlier.”

“Why didn’t you help us?” Stormfly asked as she ate her chicken.

“Because I want this place to change, so that Vikings and dragons work side by side, but, I can’t do that unless the raids stop. I need to stop them before I can stop anything else, I promise that will set you free before you get hurt though,” I explained as I sat by the door. “One day you’ll be free, I promise.”
