~Hiccup POV~
I flow beside my brother and closest friend as we laughed.
The night sky was full of twinkling stars dqncing like fire flies and fluffy white clouds which decorated the swishing void in cotton buds.
I smiled at the moon, the Luna ball and shining light which brightened our way across the sea.
"Hiccup, we should head back." Familiar chirps came from my brother as he spoke in the foreign language which only I could understand.
"I know, but two more minutes," I whined as I begged, flapping my leathery black wings to fly above my brothers head.
His green eyes locked with mine as he gave me his signature gummy smile. Toothless was a night furry. The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. His scales were black with a deep blue hint.
Toothless had raised me ever since I had found out what I was. Everything I was came from him. I never quite understood what I was other than I was different from everyone else.
My brother said I was a dragon, but my dad said I was human. I didn't know what I am.
Toothless led me back to the familiar cove as we landed.
I folded in my wings and made my tail and ears disappear.
I felt uncomfortable. It always felt uncomfortable. I wanted to be free. Not forced on to this land unable to touch the sky.
"You two are late again." I spun to see my mother, Valka, scolding me with a frying pan in her hand.
Mom disappeared off this island when I was little, everyone thought she was dead, but she had heard of a half bread around these areas and had come in search of me.
At first I didn't believe her but over time I couldn't ever imagine her telling a lie. We stuck by each other, we protected each other.
Mom gave me a small serving of chicken stew which I eat happily. She knew when I went flying with Toothless, we would go fishing and eat what we caught but she was determined to have me eat something other than raw fish and thus when she ever joined us she would give me something non-fished based to eat.
Mom stood up as Cloudjumper prepared to fly. Cloudjumper is a Stormcutter and mom's most trusted friend. He was a brown and beige colour with four powerful wings and yellow eyes.
"I'll be back in a few weeks," Mom said as she grabbed he staff and gave me a quick kiss on the forehead, "you two stay out of trouble."
I let out a small chuckle as I scratched the back of my neck. "No promises. Stay safe."
Mom sadly smiled at us before taking off.
I hated it when she went on raids. She would rescue captured dragons from dragon hunters and bring them back to the sanctuary but it was very dangerous.
I've only been to the sanctuary once, when I was very little. It was amazing. The whole place is made from ice and rock created by the true dragon king, the white king.
He keeps the sanctuary in harmony and stops the dragons from fighting.
I wish I could go back but last time dad had the entire island searching for me. I almost caused a war and so now I can't go back.
I wonder if dad would care as much now, after all, we haven't really talked much since I learnt what I was. It's not easy to have a conversation with a man murdering your friends, even if he is your dad.
Sighing, I decided to push the thought away as I got up and left for the village, bidding goodbye to Toothless before I left.
The town was peaceful. Calm and quite. The towns stood up proudly, protecting the Vikings which slept beneath them.
You wouldn't guess that in a few hours this place would be in a blazing fire, just like every night before.
I could tell she was hungry. I could tell she wanted to feast. I could tell the army was coming. The fake queen of dragons; the red death.
Picking up my pace, I got up to my house, running inside and upstairs.
I searched for my chains and muzzle but was interrupted by dad coming up. I've never been so relieved to not find my chains before.
"Hiccup, where have you been?" Dad asked as per usual as I sighed.
"I was just walking in the forest." I didn't look at my dad. I never did. It hurts too much to look at him, knowing what he was doing and what he was about to.
"Hiccup." Dad's tone became threatening but he sighed and rubbed his eyes. "Listen I know we've drifted a bit but soon this war will be over and we can talk; properly talk. Would you like that?"
I shrugged my shoulders as I tried to hide my emotions. I wanted this war to end, but not the way he planned on doing it.
Dad was about to say something but was stopped by a blast of fire.
They were here.
Dad quickly ran out of the house, not before telling me to stay inside, as if I would go out. He started to order the town people as I found my chains. I cuffed my arms and legs before putting on the muzzle, just in time to hear her in my head.
"Resisting again I see?"
I hated her voice. Condescending but powerful and demanding.
"Leave me alone," I barely whispered as to avoid the villagers from finding out.
I could hear her laughing. "Never, young hackling, you are the key for us to win this war so just give in."
I could feel her suppressing my will as I tried to fight back. I needed something to focus on. Something other than the strain.
I could hear the screams from outside as dragon met Viking. I hated it. They were in so much pain.
Closing my eyes I focused on the screams as they echoed throughout my skull. Over and over again. Never stopping. Never resting.
I scratched at my ears till fresh blood warmed my nails and the pain became numb.
All night I listened to the screams to stop her taking control and as they fled back I removed my chains and muzzle. Collapsing on my bed as I cried hearing the screams echo until I fell into the oblivion of sleep.
