Mitch’s POV

I Walked over to the knife and grabbed the handle. I placed another hand on the chopping block and tried to pull it out. I strained for a few minutes till my hand started to cramp. I let go. It didn’t even budge. I grabbed it, placed my hand on the chopping block and took a deep breath.

“Three…two…one!” I then pulled harder than I did last time but it still didn’t budge after a few minutes. I sighed as I let go and grabbed the handle. I picked it up and it lifted up the chopping block along with it. I walked out the backdoor and saw the others messing around in the pool.

“Hey Adam!” I yelled and he popped out of the water and looked at me.

“Where’s the axe?” He pointed to the shed with his thumb and went back under slowly. I walked over to the shed, got out the axe and sat down the chopping block on a stump. I swung the axe over y shoulder and swung it down hard. It hit the chopping block just above the knife. It split above the knife and after prying the axe out I put it back in the shed, pried the knife out of the chopping block and took them inside with everyone looking at me in confusion. I there the knife in the sink, put the chopping block in the fireplace and went upstairs.

It was about 8:13 P.M. whenI knocked on Sara’s door. Adam had told Sara where she was going to sleep during breakfast.

“Sara…can we talk about this?” I asked through the door and I tried the handle. It was locked.

“There’s nothing to talk about Mitch!” She yelled through the door. I sighed.

“How about…if I make us s’mores will you talk with me?” I then heard something fall to the floor, heard her yelp, the sound of running and I heard the door unlock. I stepped back so I don’t fall in. She then peeked her head out.

“S’mores!?” She yelled and I shook my head.

“I’ll get the fire started.” I said and went down stairs. After getting it started I yelled upstairs for Sara. She came running down the stairs and tripped on the last stair.

“Ow!” She yelled and popped back up, “I’m ok!” She said and ran into the kitchen. She came back out a minute later with twenty-four bars of chocolate, three boxes of graham crackers and two bags of marshmallows. She always had an addiction to s’mores and had to be restrained when someone lit a fire so she does’t…well…go crazy and grab every bar of chocolate, every box of graham crackers and every package of marshmallows. The guys and the other girls came downstairs after Sara came out.

“What’s with the food, chocolate and the fire?” Maddi asked.

“S’mores! Smoressmoressmoressmoressmores!!” Sara yelled and bounced around. Everyone looked at me with a confused look and motioned to them that I would explain later. I stood up and went into the kitchen. I then saw Sara’s ring but I ignored it.

“Well…time to deal with a s’more crazy Sara.” I said and walked out of the kitchen with skewers for everyone.

Everyone had went out for dinner but Sara and I stayed behind. I looked at Sara as she nibbled on her tenth s’more like a squirrel. I laughed slightly and smiled. She looked at me and continued nibbling.

“So Sara…it’s true that I think the necklace is just an accessory…but it still came from you. I think of it as a gift and not a thing that makes me think about the past.” I said and she stopped. Before I could say anything the doorbell rang. I looked at the door then at Sara. She looked at the door.

“Meow?” She said and I stood up then walked to the door. I opened it and I saw a girl that looked like she was in her early twenties.

“Hey umm…this might sound weird but,” She then pulled out her phone, “My phones dead and my car broke down and I was wondering if I could use your phone?” I looked her up and down and let her in. I handed her my phone and went over to Sara. After talking with her for a few minutes I felt a tap on my shoulder and I saw the girl when I looked over my shoulder.

“Thank you. I’ll leave now.” She said and I grabbed my phone. She left and after talking to Sara for a few more minutes we got things resolved and we started cleaning up the mess from the s’mores. Sara went into the kitchen and I heard the sound of metal clanging against a floor and Sara’s ear-piercing scream. I ran into the kitchen and Sara turned around.

“My ring’s gone!!”
