Jungkook was hyperventilating.

He stared at himself in the mirror. He had highlights, he told himself. He had highlights.

And the worst part was that they didn't look entirely awful. Or maybe that was the best part, Jungkook wasn't really sure.

He sighed loudly, bringing his hands up to run through his hair as an attempt to calm himself down. He frowned and leaned against the door, fighting the urge to stay inside the bathroom for the rest of the night. It was convenient that the football team was there.

That meant that Taehyung was there. Taehyung was just outside of the door, and maybe that's what kept Jungkook from leaving the bathroom. He glanced in the mirror again. Some credit was due to Yeri, his skin really did look good.

He took in a deep breath and twirled around, opening the door quickly so he couldn't change his mind. Jungkook headed back down the hallway to where everyone was and stood in the doorway awkwardly.

"Hey, Kookie!" Yeri said from beside none other than Taehyung. How convenient. Jungkook smiled shyly and sat down beside her, pulling his knees up to his chest.

Loud music echoed throughout the rather small room. Football players that Jungkook didn't recognize were dancing with the cheerleaders that he barely knew. And there was alcohol. Lots of it, and Jungkook wasn't really sure where it came from.

"Cute hair," a low voice said from beside him. Jungkook smiled shyly and turned, coming face to face with Suho. From the football team.

"It's cute, isn't it? What do you think, Taehyung?" Yeri asked. Taehyung placed down the cup he was holding and furrowed his eyebrows.

"Uh, yeah," Taehyung said dismissively, shifting and pulling his phone from his pocket. Jungkook looked down when he felt his cheeks flush, even though he knew that the compliment was half-hearted.

"What was your name again?" Suho asked from beside him, leaning in a little too close for comfort, "Kookie?" Jungkook nodded shyly, slowly inching closer to Yeri in an attempt to put some distance in between them.

"Wanna get a drink with me?" Suho asked, looking not into Jungkook's eyes but somewhere else on his face. An arm snaked its way around his waist. Jungkook flinched.

"S-Sure," Jungkook responded, although he himself couldn't really agree with his answer. He did feel more comfortable when Suho took his arm away to get up, however.

"Coming?" Suho asked. Jungkook nodded, turning to Yeri with a strange look on his face. Yeri furrowed her eyebrows together before jumping up and grabbing Suho's arm.

"I'll go with you, Suho!" she said, leading the man off somewhere into the house. Before she was out of sight, however, she turned around and winked over her shoulder at Jungkook.

Jungkook sank back down into the couch with a sigh. "Sorry about Suho," Taehyung apologized. Jungkook sat up a little straighter and shook his head, "I-It's fine."

Taehyung gave him a weird look. "You don't look very 'fine.' You can't let people do whatever they want to you," he chided. Jungkook sighed, conflicted. Taehyung didn't seem like such an asshole right now.

Silence settled over Jungkook and Taehyung. Although, it was drowned in the loud club-like music that someone was blasting through some speakers. Jungkook watched as people danced... and drank... and cried... and vomited on Hyuna's really expensive-looking couch.

"Wanna go outside?" Taehyung asked, pulling Jungkook out of his strange daze. Jungkook nodded, a faint blush on his face. Taehyung sat up and grabbed his cup, glancing at Jungkook before meandering through the small crowd.

Jungkook found himself on a balcony, standing awkwardly beside Taehyung. Taehyung leaned against the railing and took a sip of... whatever his drink was.

"T-Thanks..." Jungkook mumbled, wrapping his arms around his body and leaning against the balcony as well. Taehyung quirked an eyebrow from behind his drink.

"You looked uncomfortable. I was just trying to help out," Taehyung said. Jungkook nodded, feeling fuzzy inside.

"I don't know how you can stand them," Taehyung said, sipping from his cup again. Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows together.

"What do you mean?"

"The cheerleaders. I don't know why you'd even consider trying out for something like that," Taehyung added. He put his cup on the railing and turned to face Jungkook.

"I... I wanted to try something new. It's my senior year..." Jungkook mumbled, feeling small under Taehyung's gaze.

"Still. Don't you think they're... obnoxious?" Taehyung asked. Jungkook bit his lip and looked out at the backyard.

"Why're you asking me this? You're literally the captain of the football team. You're surrounded by these types of people 24/7," Jungkook retorted, shocked by the surprised expression on Taehyung's face.

"It's just that someone like you doesn't... belong in a place like this," Taehyung said. Jungkook's eyebrows furrowed and the blush danced off of his face.

"R-Really?" Jungkook asked. His shoulders drooped and his expression fell. "I-I guess I'll get going then..." He murmured, walking back into the house.

"W-Wait, Kookie, I didn't mean it like that-" Taehyung called out after him, but Jungkook couldn't hear him after the door slammed shut. Jungkook glanced around the room in search of Yeri or Hyuna, but came across a mass of intoxicated bodies.

He pushed his way through the crowd. There weren't that many people there, the house could definitely house way more, but Jungkook felt surrounded by bodies. He looked over his shoulder and saw that Taehyung was still out on the balcony.

Jungkook laughed to himself sadly. Taehyung really was an asshole.
