"Are you wearing makeup?"

Jungkook looked up from his book (a love story, how fitting) and up at Namjoon. "Y-Yeah, why? Does it look bad?" he asked, worried that he could've walked on campus looking like a clown.

"No, I'm just... surprised," Namjoon responded. Jin gave him a weird look but Namjoon only shook his head.

"Hey, Kooks, are you coming over Friday night?" Jimin asked, pulling Jungkook out of his weird daze. Jungkook paused.

"But Friday's the first football game," he muttered. He was required to go as a part of the cheerleading team, but Jungkook was still looking forward to seeing Taehyung play.

"Did you forget?" Hoseok asked. Jungkook quirked an eyebrow in his direction.

"Forget what?" he asked. All of his friends gave each other weird looks. Yoongi even looked concerned.

Jimin laughed nervously. "O-Our tradition, Kooks," he said, glancing around the table. "Y-Y'know, skipping the football games and staying over at Jin's?"

"O-Oh," Jungkook responded. How could he forget something like that? "S-Sorry, but I don't think I'll make it this year."

Jimin's lips straightened out into a flat line. Hoseok sighed. "It's senior year, Kooks," Hoseok said, his eyes cast downward. Jin shook his head and Yoongi moved the book away from his face.

Jungkook bit his lip. Sure, he hadn't been spending as much time with his friends as he normally did, but he thought they were overreacting. "I can't make it because of-"

"Because of cheerleading stuff?" Namjoon mocked. Jungkook opened and closed his mouth, finding no words to let tumble out.

"It's fine, Jungkook. We understand," Jin said. Jungkook winced at the use of his actual name.

He bit his lip again, thinking of something, anything to say to his friends. They only stared back at him awkwardly, giving him weird glances or sorry looks. Then, they caught sight of someone behind him.

Yoongi scoffed. Jimin looked away. Jin, Namjoon, and Hoseok immersed themselves in their AP bio notes. The ones that Hoseok still didn't understand.

"Hey, Kookie!" Hyuna squeaked, causing Jungkook to genuinely jump in his seat. He smiled shyly and tried to calm his racing heart.

"We'll see you at the game, right?" she asked. Jungkook could tell it was more of a rhetorical question.

"O-Of course," he said, putting on a fake smile. Hyuna grinned and walked away, turning over her shoulder to wave at Jungkook.

Jungkook turned back to his friends and gave them a sad shrug. "S-Sorry," he mumbled, seeing the disapproving glares on their faces.

"Are you excited?" Yeri asked, practically vibrating with excitement. Jungkook nodded eagerly.

"It's my first game, of course I'm excited-"

"Okay, girls, lets head out," Hyuna said, causing the room to fall to a quiet hush. Yeri grabbed Jungkook's hand and gave him a reassuring squeeze. Then she slapped his ass for good measure. Jungkook blushed.

The cheerleaders headed out to the football field. Jungkook watched everyone under the lights of the football field. The sun had already set and the sky had become dark.

"Over here, Kookie!" Yeri yelled from across the field. Jungkook jogged over to her and threw his pompoms down beside her.

"What do we do now?" he asked, watching cheerleaders move around at their own pace.

"We just wait until Hyuna's ready to—"

"Hey Kookie," someone said. Jungkook turned around and saw Yugyeom, from the football team. Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows together.

"H-Hey Yugyeom, what's up?" he asked. Yeri looked at the two of them in confusion.

"Can you come with me for a bit?" Yugyeom asked. Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows again and glanced at Yeri. Yeri nodded slightly in acknowledgement. Jungkook sucked in a deep breath and followed Yugyeom.

Yugyeom led him to a small room and stood beside the door. Jungkook felt his heart begin to pound in his chest. "D-Do I just go inside?" he asked.

Yugyeom nodded. Jungkook took a deep breath and tried to calm his nerves before opening the door and walking into the small room.

"Oh come on," Jungkook whined when he saw who was in the room.

Taehyung had his head in his hands but looked up at Jungkook when he heard his voice. He scoffed. "How'd you get here?" he asked, but put a hand up when Jungkook opened his mouth.

"Wait, let me guess. Yugyeom?" Jungkook nodded.

Taehyung scoffed again and looked away, leaving Jungkook to awkwardly stand by the door. "S-So, uh, since I'm already here..." Jungkook mumbled.

His heart was pounding in his chest. The idea of being alone with Taehyung in a room made his face heat up. But he put that part of himself inside of a box. He'd deal with it later.

"You can leave," Taehyung said, still not bothering to look in Jungkook's direction. Jungkook frowned and sat beside him, still not eliciting a reaction from Taehyung.

"Are you nervous?" Jungkook asked, his voice crashing through the silence. Taehyung flinched.

"Well... yeah," he mumbled. Taehyung turned to look at him. "Was it that obvious?"

"A-A little..." Jungkook mumbled, "When you're around the football team you put on this... mask and hide your emotions." Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows together.

"B-But when you're alone... the mask falls," Jungkook added, finding the courage to look up at Taehyung. He stared into Taehyung's dark eyes, searching for something, anything that would show what he was thinking.

The mask slipped.

Taehyung's eyes softened, albeit by the slightest bit, but Jungkook saw sadness. Or maybe it was longing.

"You're really observant, aren't you?" Taehyung said, a sad smile making its way onto his face. Jungkook blushed, thinking his obvious crush had just become even more obvious.

"I... should probably get out there," Taehyung mumbled, glancing behind Jungkook at the door. Jungkook bit his lip and calmed his racing heart.

He reached out and wrapped his arms around Taehyung, feeling the football player tense underneath his hold. "It's going to be fine," Jungkook mumbled, "You'll do great, don't worry."

Taehyung wrapped his arms around Jungkook in response. Jungkook felt color paint his cheeks even more. Taehyung's touch was so delicate, as if he jostled Jungkook too much he would break.

"Thanks," Taehyung whispered, pulling back out of the hug and getting up to leave the room. He opened the door and began to walk out, but not without sending one delicate glance back at Jungkook.

Jungkook was a piece of glass that could be easily broken. Taehyung didn't want to be the one to break him.

After all, he already knew what it felt like to shatter.
