I woke up to the scent of butterscotch and cinnamon. Even though I wanted to see what it was I struggled to make myself get out of bed. I may be in the underground with the monsters and magic a dreamt of but getting out of bed was still hard.
I managed to somehow sit up and swing my legs to the floor, even though I felt like a tired piece of trash. I noticed something on the floor, a piece of the pie. I smiled, happy Toriel made this for me.
It reminded me of all the things my mom cooked me at home...Mom. God, why did I leave her...
Toriel knocked at the doorway. "Hello child, I'm glad you got my pie. I just wanted to ask you something. You have not spoken to me this entire time. Do I scare you?"
I shook my head and teared up. Mom asked something similar after Dad passed...
"Alright...well I understand you may not want to speak but I assure you whatever you say when you do speak I'm sure will be amazing," Toriel said smiling.
I picked up the pie. I knew this was gonna be hard. I knew things wouldn't be easy, they never are. I had to leave another mom.
"I want to leave," I said so softly, I could barely hear myself.
Toriel's face dropped. "Now child, the world out there....it's not safe."
"I know," I cleared my throat.
Toriel thought for a moment. "You won't be able to come back."
"It's okay mom, I'll be okay," I smiled.
Toriel teared up and I ran over to hug her.
"I know child, I know you'll be okay."
Soon my belly was full of pie and I was given a backpack and new clothes.
Toriel seemed to be trying her best to be okay with the situation but I knew she was hurting. Even as she sent me out the door in her basement she wasn't fooling anyone.
