My eyes went wider than it already was. Ander looked at me and Veera kept staring at the councilor. "Uhm..u.. wha-what do you mean.." Ander stuttered. "Don't play dumb. Not right now. I know you killed that man, Ander, and you better hope and pray you don't get caught. And that goes for the both of you too." She points her fingers at the both of us and shakes her head. "Are you gonna tell?" Veera was shaking. "What the hell did I just say? I said that you better hope no one finds out. I won't tell,." I looked at her and examined her eyes. "Why are you helping us? You don't even know us."
She looked at me and took a step closer. My heart started to rise from two beats a second to four. "What you did was wrong, but I can't have that kind of bullshit coming from my camp. If this came out, then I would loose my camp." I stared at her, scared. Ander and Veera looked at her with pale faces. "So what's going to happen now?" "Your going to go back to camp, get something to eat and do NOT, I repeat, do NOT go near the lake. Understand?" We nodded our heads and she turned the other way. She started walking, but that's when Ander stopped her. "What's your name?" She turned her head and only her head. "Maggie." She faced forward and continued her walk away.
"What the hell just happened..?" Veera kept shaking her head while Ander kept talking. "She's gonna rat us out! I know it. She gonna tell the police. We're all gonna..." And before he could finish, I punched him in his face, right on the nose. "Noah! What the fuck man!" "Shut up! Just shut the hell up! You heard her, she's going to protect us. Actually she's going to protect you. I can't believe we got into this mess." He looked at me a raised an eyebrow. "Me? Yes, I killed him. Yes, I saved your asses. But did I dump the body? Hell no. Your as much as I am in this. So don't come at me for being the only threat."
I just stared at him and shook my head. "Whatever, we're dead anyways." I turned around and headed back to the campsite. I heard branches breaking behind me and saw that Veera was following me. I knew I was also guilty for dumping the body, but hell, I wasn't the one who KILLED the guy.
My mind went to different places as I started getting closer to my cabin. All these experiences that I had in my life were never once good. I got falsely accused for murder. I almost died in a van explosion and now this? Why does this keep happening to me? As soon as I asked myself that question, I arrived at my cabin and went inside. I took a candy bar from my bag and laid down on my bed. I kept staring at the ceiling that was covered with spider webs and old wood. My life was never meant to be like this.

I walked as fast as I could before needing to answer more questions. I don't understand why these kids would kill someone. I've owned the camp for almost four years and I've seen some shit happen. But THIS? Fuck no. I didn't know how I would protect those kids, but I have got to find a way. I'm not doing this for them, I'm doing this for myself. I cannot afford to loose the only thing I have. I gave everything up after I left my childhood home. I approached my cabin and closed the door behind me. I stood still for a few minutes.
After that, I slammed my cupboard with my hand and screamed in anger. My hands were now in my hair and I was on the ground. I sat there and kept my eyes closed. My heart skipped a beat when I heard a loud knock on my door. "What!" I yelled. Bennie, one of the other councilors, came inside and left the door wide open.
"Maggie, are you okay? What's wrong?" "Nothing... It's nothing. I'm sorry." I got up and fixed my hair in the mirror. "Do you want something?" "You won't believe what I found. I think you'll find this very disturbing and interesting." I tilted my head towards him. "What is it, Bennie?" "Come with me and I'll show you." I rolled my eyes and placed the hairbrush on the table. I closed the door and struggled to keep up with Bennie. He was almost running towards his findings.
He lead me to the cabin with all the security equipment. We went inside and he locked the door behind him. "What the hell is going on, Bennie?" He sat on the chair, facing the computers that was connected to surveillance cameras. Oh no. I hope he didn't see the kids. He clicked on the camera recording the lake and started to reverse it. He stopped on footage from last night at 9:15. A few seconds later, the incident happened. "These kids killed that man, Maggie and I'm going to bring them down." Shit.
