I watched as my parents pulled there luggage to the front door. They had got a last minute call and had to fly out of town tonight. My birthday was tomorrow. Why did they have to leave now? My mother must have seen the sadness in my face because she came and gave me a kiss on the phorehead.
"We'll make this up to you sweetie I promise. Okay?" I give a slight nod and give a half hearted smile when Darcy appears from downstairs. That woman always made my heart flutter no matter what my emotion was at the moment. She came and stood behind me watching as my parents scurried around.
"You okay?" She asked against the top of my head before kissing me there. I just nod. She didnt know that my birthday was tomorrow and I honestly dont know why I never told her but what did it matter anyway. My parents were leaving.
"Okay we're off." My mom said as my dad opened the door. They both came and gave me a hug as well as Darcy. The act made me smile despite my feelings.
"Darcy is in charge." My mom saids giving me a stern look as she spoke.
"Okay." I agreed. I had no problem with that. "She is looking after you and the house. And she will be getting paid." She said giving me a challenging stare. I knew what I did last time was uncalled for and I kicked myself for it. But Darcy did deserve to get paid. I was stupid before. I know.
I leaned my body against Darcys and grabbed her hand. It was on the minute my parents left the house. I felt as she froze a bit.
"Ah Mrs. Garrison. Are you sure I should be the one to watch out for everything?" My mom looked at her confused. She looked the way I felt.
"What do you mean? I think you're the best candidate for the job."
"Ah I... maybe you should get a babysitter for the both of us." I had to look up at her to see if she was serious. Yup she was. Why did she look scared? Looking back at my mother I seen her smiling.
"You'll be fine Darcy."
"I really won't." Was she pleading?
"What is wrong with you?" I asked her still confused. "We dont need a babysitter."
"Mrs. Garrison..." She said ignoring me. My mother laughed.
"Darcy it can't be that bad."
"Don't do this to me."
"You don't want to get paid?"
"No. I'll pass." She said and I look up at her suprised.
"This is last minute Darcy. I can't call anyone right now. It's too late." I felt as she took a step away from me. She didn't want me anymore. Just as my heart was about to melt from hurt my mother said.
"Respect Darcys space you hear me."
"I will. I always do."
"Only when we're around. You're scaring her." I turn to face her and she had taken more steps away from me as she rubed the back of her neck. She looked more nervous than scared.
"I scare you?"
"No." She said quickly. I heard as my mother giggled. Did I miss something?
"Darcy you two are in love. I know that you'll respect my daughter as well as she you. Be respectful..." she said with an arch brow. I then look back at Darcy with her mouth dropped open."Mrs. Garrison I know your not... are you...?"
"Hush child. You know what I'm not saying to you. You are hers and she is yours stop fighting it for peek sake." Darcy leand against the wall with a hand lightly over her mouth. Damn I missed a whole conversation in front of my own eyes. "You are watching over the house and my daughter. I'm not getting a babysitter for y'all grown asses. We'll call often to check up on you two." With that they left.
