She was right there, in front of him.
Something about her smile in the moonlight made him want to dance with her. So he held out his hand, and she took it and they danced. He watched her hair and dress swish as he twirled her around, all across the field."Carter! Hurry up and come down here for breakfast!" He heard his mom call from the kitchen. Carter got up from his bed and got dressed for school.
He was still thinking about the girl forty-five minutes later, on the bus ride to school. He wondered why he kept dreaming of her. Normally, he'd ask one of his friends for help but this wasn't something he could tell the guys about. Sure, he had a few good friends, like Tyler and Mark. They were great friends but bad advice givers. They could also be a little immature sometimes, too. It would be pointless to tell them anything about Delilah. He had no idea how he knew her name was Delilah, he just did. So he sat back in his seat as the bus rolled on. As he did, he could hear a girl in the seat behind him telling her friend about some "super amazing book". Whatever. As much as Carter loved books, they probably weren't going to help him learn more about Delilah. He had begun to zone out when he heard "...So this guy dreams about this girl..." Carter sat up and listened closely. "Really?" Her friend asked. The girl continued, "Yeah, and then she appears at his high school and..." That was all Carter managed to hear before a noisy group of girls boarded the bus and sat down in the seat next to Carter. But it was enough. He sat back in his seat and thought about what he had just heard. Whatever book the girl had been talking about, it was probably some fantasy novel. But even so, he wondered if it was possible that Delilah was real and would appear to him in high school. He doubted it, but he was still intrigued by the idea. Soon though, his new idea about his dream girl drifted away as the bus got closer to his school.
