Chapter 19

Stepping into the house smelling the sweet aroma of my mother's infamous chocolate chip cookies.
"Mom!" I yelled "I've got someone for you to meet"
"I'm coming honey" she called back from somewhere in her huge kitchen.
A few seconds later she padded out of the kitchen untying the apron she currently has on
"Hello love Are you melia's boyfriend" mom asked without looking up as she placed the apron on the rack
"Mom stop!" I yelled my cheeks heating up,  quite embarrassed
"Son.." she started looking up and stopping mid sentence......... "Jamel?, How have you been" she stated tears pricking at her eyes as she ran to embrace him.
"Amanda I've missed you so much" he cried years of joy
"Hold up!, I'm standing right here what the hell is going on do you guys know each other?" I questioned
"Oh Amelia please meet my best friend's son, his dad took him away from us when he was 12 after she died" she looked down tears pricking at her eyes.
"Oh how I miss her" she smiled sadly " fate brought us back together my boy" she smiled.
"I can't think of a day I don't miss her"Jamel whispered.
"Not to ruin this bitter sweet moment but uhm I smelt your cookies can I get a few for jam and I ?" I questioned
"Sure honey they're on the rack, bring some for this kid" she laughed.

Amanda's P.O.V
I can't believe my eyes Jamel is standing before me, if god knows what he has done to bring joy to my life.
The two most important children of my life are right before me under my roof looking like two beautiful happy angels. If only they knew the love I have for them both.
I went and took a seat in the single sofa while Jamel and Amelia sat across from me.
"So...I started, are you guys dating?" I smiled warmly at them.
I notice the small blush on my boy's cheeks
"Uhm no" he replied looking down, but I saw that he whispered something under his breath.
I smiled warmly at them" you guys are in love I know it, I've known both of you since you were kids I know those looks children better suck it up before I make you."

Amelia's P.O.V
Chuckling I responded matter of factly "Mom come on, Jamel's not in love with me"
He looked over at me smiling, definitely a strained smile.
Is he in love with me I though to myself, shrugging I changed the topic,
"So how are the cookies Jamel?" I asked
"They're good!" He replied his eyes shining,"I'm back for these Amanda and I'm never leaving ever."

A couple minutes pass after I noticed Jamel's continuos stares into space.
"Addison can I speak to you in the hallway please, Amanda don't think anything" he chuckled shooting mom a glare.

"Are you going to tell her about your encounter today?" He whispered
"No I can't! That will definitely worry her"I whisper yelled.
"You have to tell her Melia, she needs to know people are after you" he argued back
"I'm not telling her and that's final" I shot, walking back into the hall.

"Jamel are you staying for dinner" momma smiled warmly at him.
"If it's ok with you guys"
"If?, You're always welcomed here kid" mom said slapping him on the back of his head.

***DINNER TIME***

Mom placed her infamous homemade pizza and her extracted orange juice on the table. Without a proper thank you I dug into the meal and under 10 minutes I downed 2 slices and was going onto my third - I was grown with my dad, I don't play with food.
"Amanda," Jamel started,"Addison got something to tell you"
"Uhm...it's that..I...Uhm, lost my phone the other day and replace it without you knowing" I stuttered glaring at Jamel.
"You silly child, I wouldn't be mad" mom smile at me
If only she knew I thought to myself, I hated lying to her.
Sighing I excused myself and left the table and went to my room.

***KNOCK***KNOCK***
"Come in I said not even bother looking to see who entered the room.
"Addison I'm sorry but she has to know"
"Who has to know what" mom asked coming into the room.
"Oh nothing" we shouted in unison
" Lemme leave you kids to your secret" she winked before closing the door and leaving not before shouting "I know you like each other."

If only she knew the dangers we were in right now. She's the only one I have left and I'm bound to protect her even if it cost my life. Couple minutes later I finally got Jamel to leave without uttering a single word about the encounter with Fernando, there's work to be done and I better start now.

I went into the closet where I kept my collection of firearms, looking up at the only one tucked away in a glass case tears slowly stung my eye, I slowly walk over to it and ran my fingers across the glass tears now slowly running down my cheeks.
" I miss you so much dad" looking up at the gun he always kept, the one he couldn't use to take his life as it would be disrespect to his dad. He tucked the gun into the bottom of my knapsack when he left me with Amanda.

Picking up the smooth cloth I started cleaning and organising, checking to see if I may end up in some gun fire fight if I had enough ammunition.

"Melia!", Mom yelled "come here for a second love."
I jogged down the stairs "yes mom, what's going on?" I questioned.
  " What's with the secrets between you and Jamel" she asked sternly.
  "Nothing important" I lied my heard sinking as ever second pass by.
"Don't lie to me young lady"
" Mom it's to protect you....it's better to keep you ignorant" I reasoned
  "I need to know about what's bothering you" she consoled.
Coming clean I said "He came back"
"What do you mean he's back?, Who is back" she asked.
  "Jamel and I saw him today he tried to kill me because the gang wanted me back a d wouldn't listen to his order so I killed him, I know his men are after us so I didn't want to alarm you" I concluded.
"Him who" mom asked concern lacing her voice.
"Fernando" I breathe out.
"Alarm me?, Ha looks like your old lady is back in the business, I gotta crack some skulls kiddo" she chuckled.
"You can fight?" I asked.
  "I wasn't with your dad for nothing kid, he trained me damn well you know" she fired.
" Gotta show you my collection in the basement, cause you're underestimating me."

I rang up Jamel and told him the whole story and insisted he come over and stay with us as they will be after him too. By 9:00, the house was under lockdown, boy mom definitely know the ropes of a gang, it has high tech security I didn't know about until now...
" You kids are always safe once you're indoors, the protection leave only when you're outdoor, you can sleep soundly but outside of the yard is when you watch your back and you don't need to leave the house so frequently as it have everything y'all need" mom reassured us.

The days passed by quickly, we didn't have to worry about school as mom has enrolled us online as soon as she found out about the return of Fernando now we just have to enjoy the days together.

Mom has been hitting her underground gym with us 6 hours a day more frequently just to clear things up I didn't know that was there and she even has a whole lot more guns than I do. I accept the fact that she is way better than me at this thing we just got to keep Jamel up at least to my pace because I don't think dad has trained anyone as good as he trained mom.

She's Hella good.
