Falling in love really wasn't quite the way people described it to be, Natsu had come to realise.
You don't float down like a feather; gliding through the air, taking your time - until you fall helplessly in love.
It doesnt feel like bungy-jumping off a bridge, the wind hitting you softly as you sail down to the ground - and fall helplessly in love.
You weren't really falling at all.
It was more like tripping over a rock. Completely unexpected as you plummet to the cold, hard ground and smack against it - Helplessly. In. Love.
There was no warning before the butterflies unleashed in his stomach. No headstart on his mind, as it began to file through countless of thoughts he'd never dared think before.
He often found himself staring at her; heart rate increasing, eyes sweeping. Details that he had never even noticed before suddenly became so much more intriguing - and that's when he realised it had happened to him.
He had fallen in love.
-
"Crap, Natsu! We're gonna be late!" Lucy's voice suddenly chorused through her room, snapping Natsu from his daydreams of what she could possibly be doing behind that bathroom door. His eyes snapped up to her as she pummeled through the door frame, his hands suddenly clasping together on his thighs as he sat on the edge of her bed patiently, dressed in a shirt and bowtie.
"We have half an hour still, Luce." he stated, his gaze briefly glancing over to the clock on her wall before landing back on her.
He felt his chest tighten considerably, eyeing the tank top that clung to her in a way he wished he could. She wore baggy pants and her hair wet, tied up in a towel fresh from the shower.
His eyes widened momentarily as she seemed to run over to him.
"Half an hour?!" She almost shrieked, the panic in her eyes completely contrasting to the softness in his. "Look at me! I'm no where near ready!"
"I think you look fine." Natsu shrugged, ignoring the fact his eyes couldnt help but trace over her still damp skin. "You could go like that and I wouldn't care."
"Are you kidding!" Lucy yelled, as she ran across the room and began to shuffle through her drawers for something to wear. "Of course you wouldn't care, Natsu. You're helpless with these things." She sighed, swiping a hand across her forehead as she finally found something she was happy with a pulled it out from her drawer.
Helpless.
He couldn't deny it, he was helpless. But in a different way to what she was referring. He was helpless in the fact he just could not switch his mind off her - not even for a second. He was so in love with this girl and she had no idea.
"Anyway, Erza wants us to dress up nice." Lucy continued, talking to him from the other side of the room almost as if she was monologuing to herself. "She doesnt throw a dinner party just for us to turn up in our sweats."
"Yeah... yeah." Natsu mumbled, not even hearing her words as she went on. His mind was way too focused on how he was going to survive the night with Lucy sat next to him - he looked up to see her flattening out the creases of her chosen outfit - in an extremely small dress.
"I-is that what you're wearing?" He asked quietly, his eyes locked on the small red material under her palms. Her eyes snapped to his momentarily before lifting the dress to hold in the air.
"Why, you dont like it?" She asked, looking back and forth between him and it, eyes sparkling.
"N-no! I think it'll look great." He quickly smiled, before looking back down to his feet. His hands clenched hard by his sides as he willed himself not to blush - god, she could not see him blush.
