He tapped his feet, the recent developments playing in his head. It was too hard to digest, to complicated to know which emotion he should show.
Celebrate the birth of a daughter
Or be anxious about her surgery, her lung transplant, that had null chances of getting successful
Or even if it turned out to be successful, the possibilities of abnormalities to exist?
Or be repenting over the fact that pulmonary fibrosis had charred her lungs to a devastating level? The new born looked at her father with her large twinkling eyes, oblivious to his panic; to her mother's condition. Or maybe she wasn't worried because she knew Mumma fighter would be back, smiling again.
Neil chose the second option and smiled at her. She reciprocated with a larger smile and a sweet giggle. Everyone suddenly eased listening to her refrain. But then, if something happened to Avni, would they get to listen to her laughs anywhere in the future?
"Positive, is what I have to be Annie." Neil kissed the baby's forehead and waited. "I want you to blame me for not saving her on time from behind that wall. Alright Annie? I'm counting on you for that. And I'm counting on you to be angry and mad at me with your mother, in the future. If you don't, we got a problem." Neil said and smiled at his stupid words.
He looked at all the charts around him, stating biology. "Annie, tell me? Which of these digests food?" Neil asked, pointing at a chart with the liver, the stomach, the heart and the brain.
Annie senselessly pointed her finger at the heart and then at the brain.
"Now if your kid thinks the heart digests food, we got a problem Neil." Ali said, keeping his hand at Annie's head and brushed her small hair."I remembered Trump suddenly, the kidney has a special place in the heart, eh?" Neil laughed, and kissed Annie's head again.
"Mr. Neil?" The surgeon called out for him, signalling to come inside her room. He proceeded but was stopped. "The baby.." The surgeon raised his eyebrows. Neil gave Annie to Ali and went.

"We were late in finding the donor, perfect one at that...but we did, the transplant's a success. However, I'd keep her under observation for a couple of days..Also, Annie's physician would like to inspect for any congenital anomalies...I hope you understand.. We don't want to encounter any further hassles." He summed up and smiled. "Sure, I gotta be careful as a dad now." Neil accepted while Annie was taken.
"You're a champ, you must know." Neil said to Avni who was still down with the effect anesthetics. "And Annie's a champ too." He kept their small family photograph near her bed and went out, leaving her to rest.
"Annie's not inherited it, by God's grace. If she would, she would show the symptoms in her fifties." The physician and Neil had a great laugh.
"I haven't even decided for her first birthday yet which is ten months away doc, talk about her fifties.." Neil chuckled.
Finally, they were all healthy now.

"I missed my baby girl so much." Avni kissed her daughter's cheeks and held her close. "You'll breath without this..soon.." Neil smiled. "You know, I got a feeling, she would dislike or hate biology. She said the heart digests food."
"If she doesn't, I'll support her anyway. I want to bring up a rebellious daughter."
"You don't seem like the person who survived an abnormal lung transplant." Neil pointed out. "Because I knew I had to survive. I don't want to leave my little munchkin alone." Avni retorted.
The person who donated out his lung to her had a lot of breath, because Avni was suddenly speaking so much without difficulty.
"She's not a munchkin yet. She eats nothing." Neil said, stating. "Seriously? You ask a two months old child about functions of the heart or the stomach, are you okay?" Avni asked, touching Neil's cheek.
"I was scared." Neil admitted. "I just got to know, you got her checked for... abnormalities..." Avni said.
Neil knew where this was going.
"If she had one, was I to be blamed?" Avni asked, dropping a silencing bomb in the room. Even Annie seemed to be listening carefully.
Neil didn't answer, of course.
This was one question that would break her. He would never answer. He was a possessive father."I won't answer." Neil said, honestly.
"I'm glad you're not." Avni looked at her bunch of happiness again.~The End~
