Avni was now fully relaxed. Her breathing became normal. Panic attacks almost vanished. Almost all credits to Neil for this. His constant support for her made her feel like a part of this world. But she also felt something else. Like he was pushing her away slowly from himself. Whenever they got intimate and Avni wanted a taste of him, he would break apart quickly making some excuse or the other. At times she thought of talking about it, but later shook it off seeing his concern.
"Avni are you ready? We're going to the doctor's. Let's hope you get rid of it." He said while entering. Avni was seated in front of the mirror, trying to sort her hair but couldn't. Neil chuckled and went towards her. "Oho wifey. You can deal with guns and all but not your hair. You're not a girl." He said laughing and simultaneously doing her hair. "That. Was. Not. Funny." She said through gritted teeth. "I thought it was." He said, still laughing. "Wait. I'll tell you." She turned swiftly and started tickling him on his stomach. He started laughing loudly. "Avni..no..not fair.. Acha stop." "No you tease me na. Now wait." She said tickling him more. Neil was about to fall but he pulled her along with him and they ended up falling on each other. Their laughter died as they drowned themselves into each other's eyes. Avni moved a bit closer. I am going to find out if he's really doing it. She leaned in to kiss him. He was shocked at first.
She always loved him. But maybe her ego came in between. Guilt was also drowning on her. As she was thinking about it, he broke apart. "Avni we have the doctor's appointment. We are getting late. We should be going now." He said getting up and helping her as well to get up. Avni was really hurt deep down but put up a fake smile. She nodded while he went away. She turned and took deep breaths. Why Neil? Why are you doing this? I gave you a choice right? To go away from me? Then why? She wiped a tear that escaped her eyes while Neil noticed this. He turned on his heels and went out to the hall. I know you are thinking why I broke it. Avni it's for your betterment. I..I may choke you or something. She came down and they went together.
The car ride was silent. Neil made attempts to talk to her but she gave short replies or just hummed. She was making attempts not to show her anyer or hurtness. But no matter how many fake expressions she put up, Neil knew what she was feeling.
At the doctor's
Neil waited outside patiently while she got her tests done inside. She will be fine. He kept reassuring himself again and again. After half an hour. She came out . Something is definitely different. She was not wearing her pipe. "Avni is it-" "Yes it is. I am back to normal finally." She said while clapping her hands. Neil went and hugged her tightly but again broke apart after a few seconds. Now she was really disappointed. They went back home. "Avni I am going to get something for you. Just wait." He said taking his keys again.
Avni started to cry now. "Why are you doing this to me?" She shouted and went to her room slamming the door behind her. She was called by Neela. "Hm?" She said in a small voice. "Bacha what happened?" She asked. "Nothing ma. Sorry. Ms. Parikh." She replied. She was still a bit mad at her. She hadn't expected this from her. She sighed. "It's okay. Take care. Feel free to call me. Okay? Vaise he is always there for you. He will always be." Neela paused waiting for an answer. "Are you sure?" Avni asked. "What makes you ask this?" Neela asked in disbelief. "No. Nothing." She said cutting the call. The door bell rang. Avni wiped her tears and went downstairs to open it but slammed it ahut seeing Ashish. "Avni!" He said drumming. "GO AWAY!" She yelled. Ashish did so. I'll not spare him. She thought. Next time it was Neil. Avni opened the door. Looked at him once and went. "Avni? Look. " He said handing a chocolate. Avni took it and looked the other side. "What happened?" He asked facing her. Anger started to rise in her again. "YOU ARE ASKING ME? YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING?" She yelled and turned and went to their room leaving behind a dumbstruck Neil.
