It just hit nightfall as I reached the Towers. I passed very few faces on my way here.
Me: Please be here.
I walked through the rotating doors and up to the front desk of the marble interior, where a nice young woman was typing on a computer. She reminded me of my mother in a way, only she wasn't my mother. The woman had deep blue tentacles arranged in pigtails, and wore a business suit, like a man would.
Me: Excuse me?
Lady: Yes, dear?
Me: Did an Inkling girl with orange ponytails come in here in kind of a hurry?
Lady: She was crying about something along the lines of a friend or a relationship or something. It was a while ago.
Me: Exactly how long ago?
Lady: Half hour, at least.
Me: Where did she go?
Lady: Elevators. Someone did something bad to her that made her act that way. Is she someone you know?
Me: Yeah. She's a friend of mine.
Lady: Janitor said she was going to the rooftop to sulk. Are you going to try to talk to her about her conundrum?
Me: I'll try. Is there a charge for use of the elevators if I'm not a resident?
Lady: No charge. Unless you're that Michael Steven-Taylor kid. He's always getting himself into trouble. But he does own one of our finest establishments we have, so I can give him that, I guess.
Me: Why does he have to pay for elevator use?
Lady: He's always breaking the rules, most importantly the elevators.
Me: What rules does he break for elevators?
Lady: He doesn't break the rules for them. He breaks them period.
Me: You're not joking, are you?
Lady: No, sir. Anyways, the left elevator is out because of him, and until we can get our repair and maintenance workers on it, it's out of service.
Me: When did he break it?
Lady: Just today. Early morning, to be exact.
Me: I don't want to know how he did that.
Lady: Me neither, but I do.
Me: Alright. I guess I'll be going now.
Lady: Please help that poor, poor girl. She needs it.
I nodded and walked over to the elevators. The left one had an out of order sign in front of it, so I stepped into the other elevator and pushed the button for the rooftop. The doors slid shut and the elevator started rising.
Me: Please forgive me for doing this. Don't be mad. I don't know what I was thinking allowing HIM to do that. This is f***ed up. I shouldn't have done that. I should've tried to stop it without violence, but I couldn't.
About a minute passed and the doors slid open to the elevator. My destination: the rooftop of Moray Towers. The sun dipped down over the horizon as I walked over to the edge of the roof and gazed at the sunset.
Me: Truly hopeless decision I have made. It wasn't me. It just wasn't. It's not like me at all. I'm not violent, psychotic, or murderous. I'm peaceful.
I started to hear soft crying a little ways away from me. I looked to my right and saw Meggy with her head in her hands, sitting on the edge of the roof, crying.
