Your POV
Before the formal, the four of us had met up to help each other with makeup and final dressing adjustments.
My heart thudded in anticipation as I looked at the girls one by one.
Since smiles weren't her thing, Mikasa only nodded, her silver earrings glinting delicately. Both Sasha and Hange flanked her, smiling even brighter than their chosen pieces of jewellery. The bread lover had matched her rosy dress with a simple rose-gold necklace, while Hange wore pearl earrings and bracelets.
I'd chosen a pair of silver gemstone earrings, accented by a side headpiece with similarly designed curlicues that adorned my gown.
"You guys ready?" I asked, placing a hand on the door handle. We were about to enter the hall when the others caught up. The four boys looked... neat for once.
Jean, wearing a dark grey waistcoat, had his hair swept back stylishly. Eren and Connie both wore black tuxedos and neckwear, while Armin was dressed in a navy suit completed with his silver bowtie.
The three of them smiled as they neared, but Eren merely stalked over, alarm written plainly across his features. "What are you wearing, Mikasa?!"
The raven-haired girl blinked as he circled around her. "What do you mean?"
"You shouldn't be showing so much skin!" Eren exclaimed, tearing off one of the entrance's silk decorations. "Here" —he tossed it to Mikasa— "wrap this around yourself."
She obliged, draping the pale pink fabric around her shoulders. "What about Hange?"
Oh yea... I shifted my gaze to the science geek, who wore a sleeveless dress, showing much more skin than Mikasa with her halter neck gown.
Eren ignored the question, opening the doors to the hall. Bright, ceremonial colours glistened all around, wreaths of white magnolia succeeding one after another down the walls. The grade mingled about, flaunting jewellery and bowties like gold.
Once everyone settled at the tables, dinner arrived and left. Throughout the meals, it took an amazing amount of willpower to not look at the person directly opposite of me. His constant presence made the process far more painful than I'd ever imagine.
Soon, music soared through the air, announcing the time to dance. My heartbeat doubled. This was the chance. I've already liked him for a while... It was now or never.
Then a shadow fell over me. And then he asked me. And then we were dancing.
I didn't know how it all happened, how my opportunity suddenly sprung up at the wanted moment. Maybe it was fate.
It was slow at first, a gradual swaying dance, moving our hips side to side. I glanced at Levi for the thousandth time, mesmerised by his attire, his appearance, his body.
He was wearing a striking black suit, accented with an ivory tie. Upon a closer examination as we danced, the lapels of his blazer were embroidered with exquisite silver thread. Maybe it was perfume, maybe it was just his scent, but he smelled like vanilla with a faint whiff of detergent.
Leaning in to inhale that pleasant fragrance, I met the envious gazes of several girls within the vicinity. Petra was one of them.
An inferno raged behind her irises, so sickening and habitual that it made my guts turn. When would her hunger for Levi finally cease? My lips curled with disgust. I shot a look to every thirsty girl glancing this way, all ready to pounce on him when I left.
"A-am I moving c-correctly?" Levi stammered, a blush creeping onto his cheeks.
"Yes, you're fine," I replied, smirking at his frequent stutter. For someone who was usually forthright and often cruelly blunt in speech, this was a rarity; I enjoyed it, nonetheless.
Time dragged on in delicate moments, where it was only our wandering gazes and swaying bodies.
At one point, Hange accidentally pushed into me, making me fall onto Levi. The black-haired boy instantly tensed his fingers around my waist, holding me against him. Our gazes locked in that moment. I could no longer contain my blush. Rosiness erupted along my cheekbones, and I knew I was as pink as a cherry blossom.
The music crescendoed into something more jazzy and disco-like, stage lights flittering rapidly over the dance floor. Levi began moving more awkwardly, and from the way he stumbled, he probably never danced till now.
People in pairs started separating to dance alone, performing all sorts of moves and tricks. I caught Levi's nervousness as he watched them parade about.
"Do you want to stop?" I asked, slowing my dancing. Levi nodded willingly; together we headed toward the refreshments table laden with fruit and pastries.
Before I could reach for a jam tart, a chuckle sounded to our left. "You know, right from the beginning, I always knew you two were the perfect match."
