Your POV

I stretched out on my mattress, eyes closed, satisfied after my mother made me my favourite lunch.

Buzz.

Turning towards the window to ignore the beeping, I sighed as the midday sunlight caressed my face, dispersing its warmth over me.

Buzz.

There was something about Saturday afternoons that made me feel so... contented.

Buzz. Buzz.

I jerked upright, annoyance flaring. "Alright, that's enough."

My fingers reached for my phone on the nightstand, the buzzing trying to make my life hell. As soon as I turned the device on, a burst of notifications lit up on the lock screen, one after the other after the other.

What the—

Who fricking sends so many messages on the weekend?

I swiped down and checked WhatsApp.
Jean: 2 messages. Sasha: 5 messages. Class Group Chat: 172 messages and counting.

Groaning in exasperation, I pressed on 10E's group chat, suddenly bombarded with the spamming of capitalised messages, emojis, random symbols and selfie videos:

Connie – GUYS DID YOU KNOW HANGE NEVER WASHES HER HANDS AFTER HANDLING CHEMICALS. WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE FROM POISON!

*Random spam*

Hange – I DO WASH MY HANDS, YOU MONK.

*Random spam*

Eren – Connie is right. She never does.

Mikasa – ...

Hange – WHAT DO YOU MEAN? I DO!

*Random spam*

Armin – Guys, Hange is a science enthusiast. She should know the rules concerning sanitation when dealing with chemicals. Right Hange?

Hange – EXACTLY.

*Random spam*

Jean – Not buying it. Sorry Armin.

Connie – YEAH.

Sasha – *sends a video* WATCH THIS VID. I CAN EAT BREAD IN 5 SECONDS.

*Random spam continues*

I stared blankly at the screen, mentally face-palming myself. It was only two weeks of this agony... How many more weeks—months, even—did I have to suffer? I couldn't leave the group chat like that... It'd just be plain rude...

A pale blue bar popped up on the chat. Levi left.

Well that was one way to do it. Heaving a long sigh, I opened up Jean's WhatsApp:

Hey (Y/N), what homework do we have?

I wasn't paying attention in geography... sorry.

I quickly typed up an answer, before swiping over to Sasha:

NUM NUM NUM, BREAD!!

*sends four images of different bread types*

Rolling my eyes, I entered my gallery to delete Sasha's unnecessary photos. My finger dashed across another photo by accident, and an image of Levi came up. I felt my cheeks flush slightly. The blush was more from shame than anything else.

In the photograph, Levi was sitting at his desk in the classroom, reading glasses on as he looked to the whiteboard. I pushed over to the next photo, this one somewhat blurred but featured him biting the tip of his pen.

These pictures... there was something about him. He might be cold and outrightly rude, but behind it all... there was another side of him. A side that I had no idea of.

And as a result of it... It made me want to break these barriers. These unspoken rules of popularity and fame. Because underneath all these statuses and expectations, we were all simply human. And we were all equal. No matter what my grade had formed.

I went back to WhatsApp, to the chat I shared with Hange. She hung out with Levi and Erwin, if I recalled correctly. She should have Levi's contact.

My fingers automatically began typing. Oi Hange, what is Levi's number? My thumb hovered over the send button, hesitating. Another part of me erupted at my reluctance, roaring with;

SEND IT. I DARE YOU. BREAK THOSE DAMN RULES.

But my more pragmatic side made me withdraw my thumb. What are you doing, (Y/N)? You don't even know him that well... what makes you want to get his number? Besides, it's only been two weeks. Listen to me. Have patience.

I turned off my phone, leaning back against the headboard.

This school had some sort of curse... some sort of spell that cloaked over everyone who stepped over the entrance. Or maybe it was just me. Then... what was wrong with me?
