Time of Dying

The air was still and calm, gentle breezes brushed through the air and the chains of the roof of the arena rattled, Hiccup lay still but breathed very weekly, on his armour little blotches of blood dripped onto his tunic

Drago's blade collided with Astrid's axe held by Miri and Astrid held Hiccup's Inferno, they were both panting and tired, Drago looked down and Hiccup's Inferno sat in his chest where his heart was "and this is what happens when you cross a Haddock Drago" Astrid hissed into his ear and with a grunt she pulled the sword out and kicked him away, she then saw Hiccup and how pale he was

"Quick Miri go get Toothless and the Hurd, we need to get him to Gothi" she said "okay" Miracle replied and ran off to find Toothless, Astrid sat by Hiccup and stroked his face softly with the back of her hand and kissed his forehead

A few minutes later Toothless flew in with Miracle on his back "Toothless! oh I've never been so happy to see you, Hiccup need Gothi fast do you remember the way back to Berk?" she said "he doesn't...but I do" came a voice, Astrid looked up and saw Valka with Cloudjumper above them "Get Hiccup on Toothless now! we must hurry or he will die" she demanded and no one wanted to loose Hiccup so they did as they were told and strapped Hiccup to Toothless' saddle

Then out of no where another NightFury landed right in front of Astrid and Miracle, Astrid didn't even flinch while Miracle dashed behind her mother for safety expecting it to fight them, but instead she heard purring so she looked up and to her amazement Astrid managed to earn its trust as her hand was against the dragons snout

"Come on sweetie, time to go home" Astrid said, Miracle smiled and hopped on with her and they took of back to Berk, Astrid took one last look at where she spent five years as Drago's slave, memories bad and good came flooding back to her and she knew she had to tell Hiccup about all the ones who died without a name

If she didn't tell him it would haunt her for the rest of her life and wouldn't let her go, but would it be a wise decision to make when he's on his death bed, but if she doesn't tell him she might not get another chance ever again

Back on Berk Gothi, Gobber and Valka had been working effortlessly for hours and hours trying to save Hiccup and by the looks of it they were loosing the fight to keep him alive

[3Hours Later]

Astrid was sat on a chair with Miracle fast asleep on her lap sucking her thumb, they were both extremely tired, Astrid decided she might as well get some shut eye while she can, so she closed her eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep but before she could fall asleep a hand touched her shoulder and her eyes snapped open and she saw Gothi standing there

"Gothi! how is he?" she asked standing up with Miracle in her arms, Gobber then came forward and said "Lass you have no idea how much damage there was to his lung, I've seen some battered bodies in my day but nothing as brutal as your Hiccup, we tried so many different methods of stopping the bleeding but non of them worked, we.......we almost pulled the plug on the surgery and said he couldn't be saved, but!.....a miracle happened, it stopped and we saved him, h-he's alive" he said happily beaming from ear to ear

Astrid gasped in relief and smiled "oh thank Odin, thank you Gobber thank you so much" she said as she started to cry "now he won't wake up for a few months yet but you can go see him when ever you like, just don't touch his stitching" he said, Astrid smiled and went in to see him

On the bed Hiccup lay their breathing softly and his hair drooped over to one side, Astrid smiled and sat on the edge of the bed, she looked at Miracle and smiled, she shook her shoulder gently and soon she opened her eyes and spoke softly "mummy? what's going on" she said "look Miri, your daddy is okay, he will wake up in a few months time and come home" Astrid whispered in her ear, Miracle looked at her fathers body and she saw his hand so she stared playing with his fingers, this made Astrid laugh and realise that the five years she was gone really let them bond

Miracle then stopped playing with Hiccup's hand and as she laid next to him she put his hand on her back and soon she was happier than ever "looks like she takes that from you" Valka said walking in, Astrid smiled and laughed softly "yeah defiantly.....I can't believe it's been almost six years since I told him I was pregnant with Miri, then I wasn't around for most of her life since I was supposedly dead, then I come back and Hiccup nearly dies" she said as she sighed, Valka placed a hand on her shoulder and said "non of this is your fault Astrid, you were a slave to Drago because he was controlling you through the Miricuru that was in your body and Hiccup is only like this because he was protect you and Miracle" she said smiling at Miracle sleeping with Hiccup's arm around her

"Now we can live life as a normal happy family, and actually watch her grow up together instead of alone or not at all" Astrid said as she sighed sadly "I know it's not my fault that I stayed away but that's not what a mother does to her children" she said "I know how you feel, twenty years I spent in that dragon sanctuary and not one day went by where I didn't think of Hiccup and Stoick" she said smiling at her "come on dear, you go home ill stay for a little then ill bring Miracle home" she said "thanks Valka, I mean it" Astrid said as she got up and kissed Hiccup's forehead and walked away

"Maybe things will turn out for the better, and he will wake up early" she said happily as she walked off to her home
