A final Goodbye

two months since the boys came back and just about everything had happened. after the party Emelie had somthing fully against me. Everytime we ended up at the guys house she would appear and take matty out somewhere and matty never came over with the other guys.

Luke had been so protective of Steph. He bought her tonnes of shit and always made her happy. Just seeing them together put a smile on my face because she was never this happy with anyone else.

Harry had never stopped trying to prove to Kat that he was right for her. He often came around, bringing buscits and when they proved to be really shit, he would ask her to help him cook them properally. That would then lead to a mini food fight between them and then some kissing and then she would tell him to leave and she would call dylan and tell him and he would be upset but she would promise it wouldnt happen again and he would be ok with that. But really, he wasnt ok with that. and neither was she. He left after the third time it happened. They had been making lamingtons and Kat had ended up with chocolate sauce all over her shoulder and Dylan had walked in just as harry was kissing it off. Harry had left straight away while Kat cried and so did Dylan.

"You still love him kat. Its obvious and im just in the middle. Even if you dont end up with him i dont belong here." He said, resting a hand on her cheek.

"I know." She whispered and he left just like that. She cried for about 3 days. And she even hooked up with Harry again but she told him that she wouldnt be with him if he couldnt tell her where they all went for 3 years. He didnt tell her though. No one knew where they had gone.

One night, about 2 weeks ago, Matty, Harry and Luke where over at our place. Something that was rare these days with Emelie and Dylan usually being in the picture. But Emelie had left, Matty told her things she couldnt deal with and ran away, leaving him vulnerable. I didnt comfort him though. Maybe i should have but i couldnt bring myself to. Anyway, the three boys were playing with the dogs on the roof and we were heading up there when Matty came down and grabbed my arm, pulling me into my room.

"Harper, i need to show you something." He whispered, voice raspy and thick.

I nodded for him to go on and he sat down on my bed, pulling his shirt up. Accross his ribs was a new tattoo that i hadnt seen before. It read, 'Your my Medicine.'

"I got it for you Harper. Your my medicine." He said, watery eyes looking up at me.

I shook my head, "What does that mean Matty."

"It means that i love you. And that wont change." He said before addding, "Ever"

I shook my head again, not knowing what else to do. As he pulled his shirt back down, the loose material slipped off his shoulder, revealing a large purple scar along his upper chest. I gasped as my hand flew to my mouth. He quickly covered it and looked everywhere but me.

"Matty...Where did you guys go? What happened?"

I sat down next to him, forcing him to look at me. "We just had some things to do. But things went wrong and it took a long time. thats all."

"You killed someone didnt you?" I asked, not knowing where the question had come from.

Mattys eyes darkened and he looked me dead in the eye. "Harper, dont be afraid please. But we had too or we would have been the ones bleeding on the ground."

I nodded, and not knowing what else to do asked more questions. I found out that they had gone to rob a bank in california for a friend. But had been caught and in an attepmt to escape, they ran down a security guard. As they drove off, Luke, who was driving, completely freaked out and later that night he left the hotel they were staying at and went back to see if he could help. But it turned out the 'guard' was a gang member who belonged to some seriously scary people. Long story short a huge fight broke out once Harry and Matty arrived, having gone out to find Luke. In a split second Matty and Harry had gunned down two guys who were running at them and then the two of them dragged Luke away and they spent the next few years travelling around the globe in an attempt to destroy all the members of that gang so they could live in peace.

By the end of the story i was crying but not because i was scared. Because it was so unbelievable. Matty told me not to worry about it though, explaining that they were all gone and we had nothing to worry about.

Naturally he gave me permission to tell the other girls but i didnt. I couldnt.

Until the night. The night they came for the boys. Four cop cars pulled up outside there place during one of their parties. They charged through, grabbing the three boys and taking them away. It was like a movie, playing in slow motion as the plot twists and the good guys get taken instead of the bad guys.

No one knew what was happening but I did. The look on Mattys face said it all.

Steph cried for Luke at the court case, her heart breaking a second time as Luke left for a second time. Kat finally admitted she loved Harry and kissed him before the doors closed. It was sad but somehow that kiss was enough for them. It was a promise they they were both happy to keep. And I looked Matty in the eyes and swore to him that he was my medicine. It wasnt enough for us. I knew that. But it was going to have to be for the time being because in this case, love simply wasnt enough.

---

We didnt really function once they were gone. Gone for good this time. All three of them were charged for the muder and over 20 people and the manslaughter of many others who unfortunatly got in their way. They werent coming home anytime soon.

a year after they left I decided to move to New York. Kat was going to Canada and Steph was staying. It was her real home after all i guess.

We all said our goodbyes, not really knowing why we were leaving each other but knowing we would never be the same.

I guess it really is true. No one stays friends forever.
