By the end of the day I was exhausted. I had four out of seven classes with Gavin and one of them had Andrew and a few of his other friends (which I had begun to learn the names of).
"You tired, kid?" Andrew asked when we got into the car.
"Exhausted." I put my head against the seat and closed my eyes.
"Really, really tired?"
"Yeah, really really tired."
"Like really really really-"
"Yes," I interrupted. "I'm really tired so stop talking."
"Okay." He sighed. "But did you see that girl in art I was talking to?" He whistled. "Very nice to the eye."
"Slut." I mumbled.
"I heard you have a few classes with Gavin. He's a cool guy, isn't he?"
"Yeah he's cool. Now how many times do I have to tell you to stop talking?" I let my head roll to the side.
"Okay, I'll stop now." That was the last thing I heard before I woke up in my bed.

I rubbed my eyes and slid out of bed. I changed out of my jeans and into some leggings and a sweatshirt. "Is anyone home?" I said sleepily.
"We're in the kitchen!" Diana yelled. I went to the source of the noise. Everyone in the family was in the kitchen. Andrew was sitting at the island while Josh and Diana cooked.
"Oh. Hey." I said to everyone.
"We have some... News." Diana said, and her face fell.
"What?" I was worried now. I felt my blood pick up speed while traveling through my veins.
"Y-you got adopted."
"I what?" I stuttered. "I- I haven't even met with anyone and I haven't been with you guys very long." Do not cry. Do not cry.
Josh and Andrew tried to hide a laugh and I couldn't tell why. They must've hated me a lot.
"By us." Diana said, smiling.
"You what? You did! Oh my god!" None of that came out clearly because I was so excited to spend my life with a family I already really like. I ran over and hugged Diana. "Thank you thank you thank you." I mumbled into her shirt.
"You're welcome, Brynne. Now it's dinner time." She said, pulling away. "We're having chicken."
I climbed into bed about an hour later after I showered. I fell asleep quickly. A few nightmares later I woke up shaking and crying. It had been my real parents and they were killed by Dr. Overly. Was I supposed to believe my dreams? I didn't know. All that I did know was that Andrew was there when I woke up.
"I'm here, Brynne. It was just a dream. It's not real." He said softly.
"But... But..." I stuttered. Oh my god this was so embarrassing.
"But nothing. They're not real. Just dreams." His voice was still quiet. "So try and fall back asleep. I'll be here until you do."
"Read to me." I said and smiled, wiping away my tears.
"What?" He looked surprised.
"You really want me to go to sleep? Read my slave."
His laughter rang through the room. "Okay. How about 'Pet the Bunny'?"
"Too short."
"Goodnight Moon?"
"Okay." I said snuggling down into my covers. "You're a good brother." He began reading and I don't remember anything after that. My mind fell asleep quickly.

Over the next few weeks I realized that even Gavin's personality was perfectly him. And I couldn't believe I was friends with him while there were tons of pretty girls obsessed with him. I guess he was almost "required" to be friends with me because I was his friends sister though. But it was still cool anyway.
But the most unforgettable thing was when we got assigned a project together in human geography.
