In the late Eocene ambulocetus evolved into the whales. Many types of whales evolved, but only a few survived. Like its ancestors, it ate meat. Unlike other whales, it had no blow hole, it breathed by dipping its nose out of the water. At the end of the Eocene Antarctica pushed closer towards the arctic and many sea creatures went extinct.
