Percy Point of View

I continued to follow Gregor as we walked down the dark tunnle.  It had started out as concrete but soon switched to stone.  I heard Gregor say

"Time to turn off the lights."

"Why?" asked Nico.

"Were getting close." he replied, "And besides, they will be able to see us better in the dark."  We switched off there lights and I heard Gregor click.  I felt Gregor grab my hand and I took Nico's to make sure we didn't get seperated.  I heard Gregor stop.  We stopped.   I felt a strong feeling as if there was a huge mass of water near by.  I was about to ask him what we were doing when all of a sudden something furry brushed against my face and hold Gregor down.

I flicked on my light to see what the problem was.  There was a giant bat, a flier Gregor had called them.  Then we saw a few more land and I noticed for the first time there were people o n top of the fliers.

Hands down, they were the strangest-looking people I had ever seen. Their skin was so pale, I could see every vein in their bodies. I thought of the section on the human anatomy in my science book. Flip one page, see the bones. Next, the digestive system. These people were a walking circulatory system.

Then I noticed a girl with a golden bat land.

At first I thought her hair was gray like an old ladies at the nursing home, but that wasn't right. It was really more of a silver color, like blond hair with a metallic tint. The hair was woven in an intricate braid down her back and was tucked into a belt at her waist. A thin band of gold encircled the girl's head. It could have been some kind of hair band, but I had a bad feeling it was a crown.

I was hoping this girl was in charge. I could tell by the upright way she held herself, by the slight smile at the left corner of her mouth, by the way she managed to be looking down at him even though he was a good six inches taller than she was, that she had real attitude. That's what my mom would say about certain girls he knew. "She's got real attitude." She would shake her head, but I could tell she approved of these girls.

Well, there was having attitude and then there was just being a total show-off.

I looked straight into the girl's eyes and saw that her irises were a dazzling shade of light purple. He held his ground.

That was weird.  I saw the bat get off of Gregor and he hopped up.

Gregor's eyes widened.  He was about to speak when the girl said

"Bring the Overlanders to the palace.  We will let Vikus decide whether they are friend or foe."
