Chapter 25

Jake POV

Oakley was doing much better after two days in the hospital. Erika tested positive for the bacteria so they treated her and they were both coming home today.  We were currently in Oakley's room getting her ready to go as Erika had already been checked out because she wasn't brought in with a dire emergency. Erika is still feeling like all of this is her fault and that if she would have been tested this could have been avoided. No matter how many times the doctors or myself tell her that this wasn't her fault she just nods and ignores us. The doctors even told her that her OBGYN didn't catch it and that's the problem. 

" Erika, baby, focus," I said as I walked in with the car seat. Erika was supposed to be changing Oakley but Oakley was just laying on the bed in front of her and she was holding the diaper " staring into space. 

"Erika," I said as I walked over to her and took the diaper out of her hand. That's when she flenched and looked at me. 

" Are you gonna get the car seat or not," She asked me and I furrowed my eyebrows at her. 

" I already got it, you've been standing here since I left," I told her and she just turned around and grabbed the diaper from me and unswaddled Oakley. 

" Look at me," I said as I stood beside her.

" Erika," I said as she took Oakley's onesie off.

" what jake," she said as she quickly snapped her head up to me. 

" Are you ok, like I need to know if you are genuinely ok or do I need to get a doctor," I said as I pointed to the door. 

" I'm fine, just thinking," she said as she changed Oakley's diaper and then put her in an outfit to go home. I let it go for the moment but when Oakley and Caleb were in bed tonight I was gonna have a serious conversation with her. 

Erika finished getting Oakley dressed and I put her in the car seat and then we walked to the front desk. I had already signed the papers so all we had to do was tell them we were leaving. I had the car seat and Erika had the diaper bag as we walked out. We made it to the car and I snapped Oakley in and Erika sat beside her. Erika normally doesn't sit in the back but she was in an off mood so I wasn't gonna question it. I got into the front seat and I began to drive. We made it home where Caleb was as well as Erika's mom. She was staying with Caleb while the girls were in the hospital. We pulled up to the house and Erika got the diaper bag and got out as soon as I put it in park. I then got out and picked up Oakley before I walked in. When I got inside Erika was already upstairs. 

" Dada," Caleb yelled when he saw me.

" hi bubba," I said as he came running over to me. I put the car seat on the couch next to Angel and picked up Caleb.

" were you good for Mimi," I asked him and he nodded

" was he good," I asked Angel and she nodded

" of course he was, he's always the best for Mimi," she said as she unbuckled Oakley and picked her up.

" How is she now," Angel asked as she looked down at Oakley.

" shes a lot better, she's still a little weak but she'll get stronger as time goes on," I said as I picked up the car seat and put it in the entry hallway. 

" can I go check on Erika, I think Caleb wants to see her," I asked Angel and she nodded

" of course, is everything ok," she asked me and I shrugged my shoulders.

"I truthfully don't know, Oakley got meningitis from Erika while she was pregnant so Erika's blaming this on herself but her OBGYN forgot to test her for it so it's not her fault but she won't accept that," I said as she nodded. I walked up the stairs to our bedroom where I hoped she was. I walked in and I heard the water running in the bathroom so I walked in there and she was sitting on the side of the tub in a robe.
