Her Protectors

Chapter 9

Xander: 

      My heart is hurting. What is wrong with my baby brother and why won't he wake up.  I sat by his side not bothering to go to school today, again. I can't leave him. Not when he's like this. The doctor came in an hour ago. Adrian was stable and everything seemed to be fine but he just won't wake up. Aaron comes in every now and then to check on Adrian but the kind of person he is he can't be around this. Especially because he's the worst when it comes to stuff like this. Aaron bottles everything inside of him and he becomes a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode. That's when I see Adrian start to move slightly in his sleep. I turned my body fully facing him. He does this every once in awhile. He'll murmur something incoherent or he'll start making little movements. I just pray to he moon goddess that he wakes up.  I placed my hand on his head and gently swiped his hair out of his face. My brothers are my weakness. They mean everything to me and seeing my baby brother this way is slowly tearing me apart. I can only show weakness in the four corners of this room. A single tear rolled down my cheeks before disappearing. 

    I heard heavy footsteps coming closer to the room before stopping right outside of the door. After a few minutes the door slowly opened but I didn't bother turning to see who it was cause I already knew who it was. "Any progress?" No nothing yet. My other brother came to my side dragging a chair behind him and taking a seat. He reached out his hand towards Adrians hand and grabbed his hand and held it in his. I looked at him as he stared at our brothers still body. "Don't you dare give up. We need you baby brother. Without you we won't be able to get through.....please." I turned to look at Aaron and watched as a lonely tear slowly fall from his cheek. I wrapped my hand around his shoulder while he held onto Adrians hand. Nothing else was said. We just sat in silence just hoping and quietly praying that he comes back. After a few hours the doctors and nurses came in and started to clean my brother while Aaron slept on the couch on the other side of the room. After they were done they left and not long after I made my way out leaving my two brothers and made my way to our office. 

        When I got to the office I linked Chase and Amber to meet me in the office. After about three minutes there was a knock at the door. Come in. When the door opened in came Chase my Beta and his mate Amber. "Alpha" they said in unison. Sit I said quietly knowing that they would still be able to hear me. "What's up Xan," I hear Chase say as he leisurely sat on the couch and Amber next to him. I stood up from where I sat and made my way around my desk and sat on the corner facing them. I want to tell you both thank you for helping me look after the pack as well as doing some pack work while I look after my brother. "Of course Xander, there is no need for thanks you are like a brother to me." Now that, that was out of the way I looked over to Amber. I would like to know everything that happened the night I assigned you to go with Gray and her mother. She looked up at me and nodded moving towards the end of the couch and straightening her posture. Before she started to tell us what happened I made my way back behind my desk and got comfortable. While Amber was telling the story a few things that she said was very interesting. My little mates mother seemed to know that danger was near. She also knows about mates and has actually had one herself. I leaned back into my chair waiting for the rest of the story she said that it seemed like Gray and her mom was running from someone because their house was like FortKnox. After hearing that I rested my chin on the palm of my hands. Do you know what kind of species are they or any information I asked Amber. "No, she told me that now was not the time to talk about it and sir, it seemed that Gray doesn't know anything. Mrs. S waited for Gray to fall asleep and we talked in the kitchen. It seems that Mrs. S doesn't want Gray to know anything. 'hmm-interesting.' 

     After Amber told me everything from that night I said that she could leave but told Chase to stay behind for a few more minutes. When Amber left I told Chase what Gray was to me, to us, my brothers and I. Chase, Gray is our mate. He looked at me a little shocked but then that stunned face turned into a soft smile. He gave me a gentle pat on the shoulder "congratulations man I'm so happy for you three. From what Amber tells me of her she will be great Luna. She is kind, caring, strong. Well at lease that's what Amber tells me. Before he can continue I looked at him in his eyes and told him the truth of how I felt. I don't know what to do Chase. I was this close I held up my hand gesturing how close I was to rejecting her. I thought she was weak and what made it worse was that when I first bumped into her I thought she was human. You know how it was for us with my dad. He looked at me with a mix of emotions; anger, sadness, and understanding. "Look man, I know that you and brothers went through a lot with your dad. But your mate doesn't deserve that." I looked at the sincerity he held in his eyes. What if she doesn't want us.She doesn't even know what she is or anything about this life. She doesn't even know who she is. "Well brother it's up to you, Aaron, and Adrian to help her." How does it feel having a mate, I asked him. 

      "It's the most incredible feeling. He looked off into space before continuing as if thinking how to describe it. It's like this one person was made just for you. In your case this one person was made for all three of you. Waking up every morning looking forward to start a new day or adventure with the one person you can't live without. The person you wake up to every morning and sleep next to every night. The one who will love and care for you no matter your flaws. Someone who will love you no matter what and will always put you happiness before hers. She is your jewel to protect and cherish. She is the one who makes you stronger. She will be your backbone and support system. She will tell you when you are wrong and when you are over doing it. She is the other half of your soul and your wolfs. She is the light in the darkness." I looked at him with a small smile. I cleared my throat to get his attention before his eyes snaps back to me. "Think about your decision Xan before you and your brothers make any moves of rejecting her. I gave him a small nod pondering over his words before he got up and left.  

     'Well let's get more information on my little mate shall we.'
