"911 what's your emergency.."

"Help...*static* me...*static* can....me"

"Hello? Can you speak up please? "

"Me...*static* its...me..*static* kill..me"

"Whose going to kill who? I'm sorry, I can't understand you. Can you try telling me your name? "

"..A..manda...Amanda.."

"Amanda..good. Ok, Amanda...I'm sending help. Are you hurt? Is someone trying to hurt you?"

"Amanda, I'm sorry. I don't understand...You have to tell me. Are you in danger?"

*a door slams*

"No...no no please no! What do you want??!!"

"Amanda!! Amanda?! Who is there with you?"

"Me!!! Fuck! It's ME"

*crashing sounds followed by heavy footsteps and rapid breathing*

"Amanda!! "

"Please send help...I can't fight it. I'm not strong enough.."

*a loud thud and a scream of agony*

"Amanda? Hold on! I'm sending the police to your location right now! Stay on the line with me.."

"Amanda...."

"Amanda are you still there?....."

"....................you're too late. Everything that was hers is mine. She's MINE!"

"Hello? Who is speaking?..."

"Amanda ??!! Hello?!"

*dial tone*

Blue lights flash through the slits of curtain in the silent townhome. The rain darkens the street as two police officers approach the front door.

Ahead of his partner, the officer
finds it slightly ajar and silently signals for the other to check around the back of the house. As an extra measure, he quickly requests back up.

With his gun and flashlight drawn and aimed ahead of him, he nudges the door.

It slowly swings open and he proceeds with caution. The house is cold and dark, the winter storm outside more welcoming. Assuming the power must have been knocked out by the storm, he inches deeper inside.

He silently scans the house, finding the front room and kitchen empty. The lightning cracks occasionally and brightens the house through the bay windows.

A muffled thud from above draws the officer's attention to the stairs to his right.

"This is the police!" he calls out into the darkened stairway.
