This book is the SEQUEL OF CHECKMATE. However, you can read this as a stand alone book, BUT it will make so much more sense if you read Checkmate first.
To put it briefly, Zedd is a homophobic asshole. His popularity was largely thanks to being a soccer jock. But he has a tendency of ruining friendships without even trying.
Mitch thinks there's more to Zedd that meets the eye. He feels like he's hiding something. And that he is in danger. Where else could the bruises come from?
But it's going to be harder for Mitch to help out his friend now that Zedd refuses to talk to him ever since a slight incident in the change rooms.
