The Dollmaker? Perhaps Jason and Vine had a deeper and perhaps darker past you have never even thought of. Thoughts of interest clouded your mind, swirling around like blood down a drain. You had managed to convince yourself that looking deeper into this was for the greater good. The more you knew the more you could help the toymaker, right? With a long and somewhat regretful sigh, you find yourself opening the book's dusty cover. The pages flung open, almost like the book had a mind of it's own. Pristine paper, untouched by hands other then those of Jason's clothed ones but despite all this the book still smelled deeply of damp paper. For a second you consider closing the book, your heart racing and the offensive smell making your stomach turn slightly. You knew deep down you had to do this though. Seeing Jason flip out over Vine a few minuets ago was proof enough that you just had to know more. You touch the first page gingerly, your hands trembling in fear for what lay beyond. Just one turn, a flick of the wrist. You cursed yourself under your breath for being so weak willed when it came to the business of the toymaker, however that was to be expected. Jason had always hated you digging into business that wasn't your own. Disrespect he called it and deep down in your cold, black heart you knew he was right but desperate times called for desperate measures and with the toymaker's health at stake you couldn't afford to be picky. You finally turn the page, gracing your (E/C) eyes over whatever Jason had written about his " enemy ".
The book read as follows.
'Something has felt strange for some time now, a deep foreboding. It makes me sick to the stomach. Ever since I came across HIM in the street. He may have only been a child but I felt something strong from him. A deep madness is deep rooted in this child and it has occupied my thoughts ever since. How could a child like him have such an evil presence already? I heard his father call him Vine. Darker then ebony hair, sparkling green eyes that set me on edge by the mere sight. No, they sickened me. '
' I hunches were right all along. It turns out the boy was the son of a doll maker called Gier. Not that the thought of another toy maker bothers me so this information is irreverent but what always bothered me was what circumstance lead to Vine being abandoned. His home was set alight, his father perishing inside. I was there that night, having felt a strong energy awaken from the realm I resided. Vine stood there, smirk of his face. It was like he had snapped, lost a sense of humanity I had long forgotten about. I felt a small sympathy for the boy and I hate to admit it but a little fear too. '
Too engrossed in the book you don't hear the door to Jason's room open but when a satin covered hand touches your shoulder gently you finally acknowledge his presence. Your heart begins racing again, closing the book and retracting it to your chest. Jason's eyes were hot and gleaming with rage. His smirk was sharp.
" What do you think your doing there my dear? "
