Scared And Alone

You stand to your feet after a time, able to find your strength, at least enough to move from the cold damp ground. Tears still refused to fall, shock for the cold biting at your body as you felt more numb with every second that passed. You look over to the dog like creature, knowing full well you should have heeded his warning and maybe if you had the toymaker wouldn't be in peril. You knew you were the one to blame, not acting quick enough or insisting you stay together. It was almost like you could feel the fear from the toymaker himself, overwhelming and misplaced. He always tried to put on a brave facade but deep down he was vulnerable and only you knew how much. You sigh, watching as your clouded breath vanished into the air around you. You turn to face the creature once more, his eyes shining bright though the fog and his permanent smile sinister.
" Where is he?"
The dog chuckles, turning to face back in the way of the cabin, his tail wagging low as he slowly moved through the fog. His voice was loud and demanding, sending a shiver up your spine when he spoke. This clearly was a creature of great power and you made a mental note to not displease him.
" I can show you where to start but not where he is"
Well it was a start, better then nothing and any help at this point was much appreciated.
Demonic creature or not.
Following slowly behind you take a moment to yourself, wondering if there turly was anything you could do. You were just one person. Sure you had power but alone was it enough to save the man who you held so dear? You truly hoped so as the guilt and worry settled in your stomach, making you feel sick from the pure anxiety the wrecked your entire body. You are however quickly snapped out your thoughts, caught off guard by the creature as you both continued on into the woods.
" I'm sure there is something you can do" You stop dead in your tracks, breaking out in a cold sweat.
Had this creature just read your mind and if so how did he?
He chuckles, turning back to you as the corners of his sharpened smile became that of a smirk.
" It was a gift I was born with"
You fumble with your icy hands.
" Can you stop listening to thoughts?"
" Not even if I wanted to"
He continues on, you following a little more behind in the hopes that the creature couldn't read your mind the further away you were from him.
Your fears and insecurities were not something you wanted this unknown being to hear.
The cabin comes into the clearing, slowly emerging in the mist as a sudden burst of energy causes you to run towards it.
You keep running, running as fast as your legs could carry you. You left the creature behind, passing him in a panic. You try to catch your breath as you approach the worn down wooden door and forcing it open with a heavy push from your shoulder.
The small cabin was damp and dark, water dripping through the broken ceiling and about looking ready to collapse. You stepped pass many broken floorboards, following a faint trail of blood. You felt your heart sink as you reached the end, finding a small pool of crimson liquid next to a wall covered in deep claw marks, a clear sign of a struggle.
"Hello?"
You had hoped deep down the pair were still close by and able to hear you call out. Not a wise move, you knew that but you had to try at least once. Sweeping the loose hairs from your vision you finally feel the pent up tears overflow, spilling onto the already damp floor. Having finally caught up you feel the presence of the creature enter the room, sharp claws scraping on the wood below.
You continued to weep feeling like your soul had split in two as you notice Jason's hat was laying beside your feet, covered in blood and torn to shreds. All the trims had been removed and half of the rim had been torn away. You pick up the hat gently and slowly as if not to hurt the inanimate object, knowing that this could very well be all you had left of the toymaker if you didn't act quickly. From across the room the demonic canine could see how distraught you were, coming closer to try and offer any words in the way of sympathy, even though he knew himself he was very lacking in that emotion.
" Sorry"
It was all he could muster. The creature had never really understood human emotions that well, a concept rather foreign but you could tell he meant well, offering him a warm smile and a soft thanks.
You wipe your tears with your sleeve, noticing something heavy move about inside the hat as you moved your arm to wipe the tears away. It looked almost like a mobile phone.
A sticker on the front said but two words.
Play me.
