First Day of Senior Year

These past two weeks have been such hell. It was Sunday night and we were all having dinner. Joe's mom made porkchops, mashed potatoes, and yeast rolls. The first day of Senior Year would begin tomorrow. Joe had been pretty depressed after everything I told him (well, lied about) that afternoon I came back home after my abortion. I'd been a nervous wreck. His mother and father kept asking what was wrong with the two of us. We just always gave the typical teenage response - "Oh, nothing...". However, in the past few days, Joe had seemed better which was a relief for me. He'd been back to making goofy jokes and tickling me out of nowhere. That made me feel a bit better, but...there was still that little voice in the back of my head telling me how horrible of a human being I was.

Joe and I had gotten our final schedules mailed to us on Friday. We had three classes together this time! Last year, we only had World History together. This year, we had first period together, but the best part about our schedules was that we shared 3rd and 4th together too. That means, after being together in 3rd, we get to walk to lunch together. Then, after lunch, we would get to walk into 4th together. It would be a whole chunk of the day where I would see him with no breaks - and I liked that. I had no idea if I had any classes with Lucy or any of the guys yet. I hadn't really spoken to anyone since my "welcome back" party. People had texted me and Lucy wanted to have a "girl's day" before school started but I kind of withdrew from my social circle with all that was going on. I told everyone I had been really sick with some flu-like bug (and as you can see, I was lying yet again).

It was now about 10:00 p.m. I was ready for bed. Mary had left a few days ago to make sure she was settled back into her dorm and ready for a new semester of law school. Just as I was slipping underneath the covers, I heard a knock at my door. I already knew it was Joe. 1.) He's the only one who usually comes to my room around this time and 2.) I know his knock.

"Come in." I said.

Joe opened the door. "Hey, mind if I turn on your light? I wanna show you something."

"Ok, go ahead." I replied.

Joe flipped the switch which lit the room up. He came over to my bed and sat down.

"Look at this photo I found in one of our old family albums. I don't know why I was looking through them. I was bored, I guess. Anyways, though - here." He said handing me the photo. I was in awe. It was one of the most beautiful photos I had ever seen.

"That's my parents on their wedding day." Joe explained, smiling.

"Oh my goodness. What a sweet picture! Your mom looks stunning in that dress and your dad - wow!"

"Hey, hey, hey. Remember now. I am the handsome Joe in this family." Joe responded quickly, pretending to be offended.

"Ok, ok, I'm sorry, handsome Joe." I apologized sarcastically. Joe chuckled and looked at me.

"So, ready for school tomorrow?" He asked me.

"Actually, yeah. I'm excited."

"Me too. We'll get to spend more time there together than last year since we have more classes together." Joe said enthusiastically.

"Isn't that great?" I scooted even closed to Joe.

"It's the greatest, babe. This is gonna be the best year of our lives - our Senior Year. I can feel it. I'm gonna let you get some rest now. After all, I don't want you making us late tomorrow morning due to lack of sleep." Joe joked. I hit him with my pillow.

"Hahaha. I love you." He told me right before he placed his lips upon mine.

"Love you too. I guess I'll see you in the morning, mi amor."
