It was now September 9th. It was a Monday night. Joe and I were sitting on his bed, watching Band of Brothers on his computer. It's such a great series. Joe and I both love shows and movies that focus on WWII. The day was coming to a close. It was about 9:15 pm. We'd been in school for two weeks. I was able to change my Gym class to Photography since I didn't need more credits for P.E.. I'd been enjoying my Senior year for the most part. It's just that there was a lot in the back of my mind. One good thing was that I'd been able to stop lying constantly. However I never came clean about anything either. From faking choking to literally going and having an abortion behind my boyfriend's back and then saying it was a miscarriage. So, since I still hadn't told the truth...I guess that technically means I'm telling lies from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep. Ugh...

Joe and I were cuddled up close to each other underneath his black and red plaid comforter when we heard a knock at the door. Joe's mother peaked in.

"Hey you guys, I really think you two need to get some sleep."

"Awww, Mom. Come on! It's not even 9:30 yet. We're old enough to stay up a little and still get ourselves up for school on time."

"Well, school starts early and you have to wake up even earlier as a result. Joe, you know this." His mother argued with her son, putting her hands on her hips.

"Mom, we're not little kids. I mean, can't we just-" That was all Joe got out before Virginia spoke again.

"Young man, do not argue with me. As long as you under this roof you will follow mine and your father's rules. That goes for both of you." She stated firmly, quickly glancing over to me.

Joe rolled his eyes. "Well, luckily once I'm 18, I won't be under this roof."

Oh gosh...Joe really should not talk to his mom like that. I know Ginnie well by now. She may be tiny, she may be caring and generous, but do not roll your eyes at that woman.

"Ok, don't you dare roll those eyes at me." She lectured, her voice raising in volume. "And if you really think it's that simple to just leave the minute you turn 18, then by all means, try and do it. You'll see it isn't that simple. You've not lived real life yet, Joseph."

"Mom, I'll be in film school once I'm 18. I'll have a dorm. Perhaps you forgot. It's not even that long away. I'll turn 17  the Saturday after this coming one...so like literally next week will be my last birthday before my 18th one. It's all just a year away." Joe snapped at his mom.

Umm...I'm literally trapped underneath this heavy cover with Joe beside me, his mother is blocking the door, and I have no means of escaping this room - which I really don't want to be in right now. I mean, this is so awkward. I'm just sitting here while my boyfriend fights with his mother.

"Ok, so you just won't need us after that? You think you'll have everything? You'll still need help from us just like every college kid." Her voice sounded infuriated, but I could see in her eyes that her son had hurt her feelings by basically saying he couldn't wait to be away from her.

Joe didn't repond to his mother. She looked at him and shook her head in disappointment. Then, she walked out and shut the door behind her.

"Sorry about that, Valentina."

"Do you think you should apologize, Joe? I think you hurt her feelings." I told him.

"Listen, she totally started the whole thing. Look, don't worry about it. I've gotten into a thousand fights with my mom over the years. She and I will be fine - trust me. Okay, babe?" He said, trying to assure me that everything was alright.
