I still had my body bent over at the fountain, scared to death to turn around and face Lucy.
She just caught me with a bottle full of pills.
Also, I don't even know if she saw me take the one I swallowed. Was she standing there? Or had she appeared just after I had taken it? I had no idea.
I was so consumed with getting the Vicodin back in my system that I never even heard her footsteps.
Well, one thing is for sure, my plan to ditch her didn't exactly work. Fuck me. Fuck my life.
"Valentina? Did you hear me? What is that in your hand? Why did you leave the bathroom?" She interrogated.
I took a deep breath and slowly turned around. I didn't look at her. I didn't answer her either.
"Valentina! Talk to me! What's going on? What are you doing?" She came close to me and suddenly tried to take the bottle from me. I presume it was to see what the label said. The bottle actually had no "label". You could also tell it was an older bottle. I got angry when she tried to yank the bottle from my hand. I pulled away and looked up at her, very miffed at her action.
"Do not EVER try to grab something from me - especially something that isn't yours and something that you have no business even knowing about." I snapped at her.
Lucy looked very taken aback.
"Valentina, I-I apologize for trying to take something that belongs to you, but you weren't responding to me. You are holding a pill bottle with no label and acting suspicious. You've got me very concerned. Listen to me - I am your friend and I care about you. Can you please just tell me what is going on?" Lucy put a friendly hand on my shoulder.
"Lucy...I can't."
"You can't? Why can't you?" She pressed.
"Because I said I can't! Okay?" I replied with a very aggressive tone.
"There's no need to yell at me. Just calm down. I only want to help you. " Lucy replied, keeping her cool.
I let out a huff of angry air and began to walk away. I felt Lucy grab my arm.
"Wait, Valentina!"
"What?"
"C-can I please just ask you one question?" Lucy wanted to know.
"That depends on what it is." I informed her, folding my arms.
Lucy sighed. "Sweetie, are...are you taking something that you shouldn't be?"
Lucy and I were looking straight into each other's eyes. Her's looked full of worry. I couldn't see my own, but I know mine looked full of annoyance.
"Okay, this press conference is over." I said as began walking away again.
"Valentina..."
"Lucy, please, just leave me alone." I instructed as I left her standing there.
Gosh...I had really let Lucy have it. She's my best friend. Should I have been so mean? I panicked when she found me and was unsure of how to react.
As I was walking back to the cafeteria, the bell for homeroom rang. I shrugged my shoulders and started to walk and suddenly, I see Joe frantically turning the corner. He nearly ran into me.
"There you are! What happened? You never came back from the bathroom. Did you get sick in there?" He asked with worry.
"Oh, no I didn't. Don't worry, I'm fine." I told him.
