It was now September 21st - my love's birthday. I awoke around 10:30 am. I got up and opened my door to find Joe also opening his door. He must have just woken up too.
"Well, good morning, birthday boy!" I exclaimed.
Joe grinned. "Thanks, baby." He pulled me in and gave me a kiss. I was always surprised that Joe never minded getting so close to me in the mornings before I had a chance to brush my teeth. I hate to admit it, but I sort of have what you call..."morning breath". It doesn't seem to bother him though.
"I'm so excited for you to see what we have planned for you! I think you'll be pleased." I told Joe, beaming.
"Well if you had any part in the planning, I know it'll be good. Now where's my present?" He inquired jokingly." I playfully shoved him.
"Nuh-uh, mister! You don't get ANY presents until later."
"Awww." Joe responded while putting on his "sad puppy eyes".
"Those won't work today." I said, folding my arms and smirking.
"Damn." Joe said. We both laughed.
After we had both gone to the bathroom, we met each other downstairs. We found a note that was left by Joe's parents. Joe's dad was at the dance studio and his mom had to go to the store.
"Hmm...I guess we're all alone." Joe said as he winked at me."
"Umm...Joe?"
"What?"
"Aren't you forgetting your little brother? He kind of lives here too." I reminded him.
"Geez, someone always has to ruin the fun, don't they?" Joe joked.
Joe and I decided to grab some strawberry pop-tarts for breakfast. I also made us some coffee. We sat down at the table together to eat.
"Sorry that this isn't the best birthday breakfast...but your party tonight will make up for it. I swear." I assured him.
Joe took a sip of his coffee. "Man, you are really hyping up this party. I'm so ready for this. This is also MY first birthday that I will be spending with you, so it's extra special." He remarked.
I smiled and grabbed his hand.
"Hey, how about we go to the park for a couple of hours before the party? You know...to have some alone time since I know we won't have any at the party." Joe suggested.
I began to say yes, but then I remembered I had to leave early to help set up.
"Oh Joe, I am so sorry. I would love to, but I have to go over to Rami's early and help them set up. I have to be there at 3:30 since the party starts at 5. Lucy told me to get there an hour and a half early. I'm so sorry!"
(Well, Joe was the only one getting there at 5. I made sure everyone would arrive before Joe. I wanted it this way so everyone could say "Happy Birthday" when he walked in.)
"Hey, hey, it's ok. Don't apologize. The fact that you're going to so much trouble is beyond thoughtful. You're an amazing girl." Joe said to me, making me blush. I tried to hide it. Joe likes to make fun of me when I blush.
"Uh oh...someone's turning red!"
Dammit Joe.
"Shut up!" I shouted, trying not to laugh.
"Oh! I almost forgot to ask. Did Ben text you back when you invited him?" Joe asked me.
"Okay, so I texted him last night and he never got back with me. I told him the party was at Rami's house and that he was more than welcome to come. I also let him know you said it was okay. I still haven't got a response...so I guess that means he's not coming."
