"𝕯o you think Hades will give you guys the ember?"
Rilynn and Jay were sitting outside while the girls changed out of their party clothes--Mal had to change from her robe. The princess was worried about Jay and the others returning to the Isle, but they knew that place better than anyone. But that wasn't Rilynn's issue; it was how they would get the ember.
Mal made it sound like this job would be easy, but this is Hades we're talking about. The God of the Dead. What makes Mal believe that Hades would willingly help her save Auradon after everything he's been through?
Jay seemed to be just as skeptical as Rilynn. He didn't believe Hades had a single kindness in his heart, especially not for heroes. Hades was stripped of his godly powers and thrown into a cave to wither away like a rat. Hades was embarrassed.
"I'm not sure," Jay pressed his fingers into Rilynn's skin as if he were pulling her closer to his side. It wasn't possible, but Jay wanted to feel Rilynn before they had to separate. "Mal seems to think so, though. And having Celia with us, she might be able to snag it for us."
"Is it smart to take Celia with you guys? She's just a kid, and she just got to Auradon. Maybe she should just--"
"Riles, breathe," Jay met Rilynn's eyes when he felt the princess slowly growing panicked. He breathed for her to follow the movement of his chest, which she did. "Celia's from the Isle; she knows how the Isle works. Besides, she's Hades's errand rat. That'll come in handy for us."
Rilynn's shoulders dropped as if the worry slowly fell off, but the princess still seemed unsure.
"I feel useless staying here. I should do something to help," Rilynn turned towards Jay. "I need to warn the others. Jane's probably at the Enchanted Lake, and Ben's been in a meeting for the past hour. Neither of them knows what's going on."
Jay knew Rilynn would want to help somehow, and she was right; nobody else knew about Audrey turning evil or that she had Maleficent's scepter. Rilynn can warn people before more fall victim to Audrey's schemes.
He nodded. "That's a good idea. I'll let Evie know. And don't worry about Dizzy and the twins; they're tougher than they look," Jay reassures.
The group walked out.
"Let's get this show on the road," old lady Mal rasps, ambling toward the shed in the back.
Rilynn grimace. "Should you be driving?"
Mal merely laughs under her breath. "I might look old, but I'm still young," she squints. "Where's the shed?"
Evie makes a face like she hesitated but offers Mal some help. "This way, sweetie," she looked over her shoulder, sparing Rilynn a look. "I'm starting to second guess this, too."
"I'll be back in no time," Jay reaches over and kisses Rilynn, catching her by surprise. "Be careful if you leave, you hear me? If you see Audrey, don't approach her. We don't know what she's capable of now that she has the scepter, and she doesn't sound like she wants to reason with us."
Rilynn nodded quickly, standing up with Jay before pulling him for another kiss. "If Hades tries anything, promise me you'll be safe."
Jay nodded. "I promise. 'Sides, I know what I'm doing," he tried to sound offended, but his grin said otherwise.
"Jay!" Evie calls from the shed where she was pulling out bikes.
"See you in a bit," Jay flashes Rilynn another one of his cocky grins before jogging to his friends, throwing on a helmet, and hopping on his bike.
