I wake up to my alarm going off on my nightstand. At least we got everything unpacked quickly. I know this is supposed to help me forget what happened but I think about it all the time.
I groan and reach over blindly to turn it off. A few more minutes. "Ash! If you don't wake up now I'm coming up with ice water!" I hear mom yell from downstairs.
She wouldn't actually throw water on me.
Right as I think that I feel ice cold water hitting my back. I gasp and jump out of the now soaking bed. I look to where it came from and there stands the culprit. Bucket in hand and brown hair in a bun.
"I warned you." She smirks.
"It's so cold!" I shiver.
"Ya, it's ice water." She says. "Now, shower and get ready. Breakfast is almost done and you can't miss the bus. I'll throw your blankets in the dryer when you leave."
"Alright, alright. Don't throw more water on me." I say. Mom smiles before walking out of my room.
I let out a shaky breath. It's so damn cold. Walking to my dresser I grab a black t-shirt with the 'Firewalk' logo from Life is Strange on it and some blue jeans.
I go to the bathroom and start my shower and once I've showered I get dressed and put my black watch on. I brush my teeth then look in the mirror and see that my hair is all messed up from the towel so I comb my hair and make it do what I want. Luckily my hair cooperates and stays the way I want it to. I grab my phone and bag from my bedroom before walking downstairs.
It's a small house and I can see almost the whole downstairs from where I stand at the top. All that's upstairs is a hall with my bedroom, my parents' room and a bathroom.
I go to the small kitchen and set my bag down by the doorway so I can grab it on the way out.
"Well, don't you look punk as ever." Mom smiles as she pauses cooking to gesture at my clothes and hair. I have a dark brown, basically black, faded pixie so I made the longer parts sort of spike a little. It's not stiff because I have a habit of running my hands through my hair.
"I guess." I chuckle lightly.
"I can't wait for you to grow out of this phase." I hear dad say from the small kitchen table. I scoff and sit across from him.
"Believe it or not I like my style." I say. He's been like this since I came out and mom let me cut my hair. He despises that I'm gay.
"Give it a year. You'll drop this like when you dropped wanting to be a tattoo artist." He continues reading the newspaper. Who reads the newspaper anymore?
"I still want to be a tattoo artist." I tell him. He just scoffs at me and I roll my eyes. "What's for breakfast?" I ask mom, to change the subject.
"Eggs and waffles." Mom answers.
"My favorite." I smile.
"I know." She tells me. "I want you to like it here." I give mom a smile as she cooks. We moved here to get away from what happened in my old school.
"Cause it's all about Ash, isn't it?" Dad says sarcastically. I glare at him.
"That's enough, Mark. You know full well how much she meant to Ash." Mom defends as she sets a plate full of 2 waffles and a pile of scrambled eggs in front of me.
"Thanks." I give her a sad smile remembering what happened again.
"Of course." She smiles back and kisses my forehead. Dad scoffs. I ignore him and start eating. "You ready for the new school?" Mom asks.
