Chapter 2

I'm back in Mirstone. Sitting in the diner with Nicky. I remember this! It's after Nicky got the lead in the school musical and we went to the local diner to celebrate with milkshakes. Suddenly we aren't in the dining room. We're at the dock sitting on the bench when a shot rings out. My vision goes black then images of Nicky's body in my lap fade in and out until it's just black.

"Nicky!" I shoot up in my seat. I look around and see I'm back in class. Everyone's staring at me. I look to my right and see Alex. His eyes are a dark orange as Chase moves to sit between us. I look to my left and see that Lilly is giving me a worried look. 

Before anyone can say anything I grab my bag and bolt for the door. I find the nearest bathroom and go in, running the water and cup my hands under it. I splash water on my face in an attempt to calm down until I feel a chilly hand on my shoulder. I turn to see Lilly looking at me with concern clear in her eyes. 

"Are you okay?" She asks.

"I'm fine." I say turning back to the sink. I hear the harshness of my tone and regret it. "I'm sorry. I just need to calm down."

"I'm here if you want to talk about it." She says softly.

"Thanks but I don't even want to remember it." I say. I then remember Alex. His eyes turned dark. "What happened to Alex?" 

"What do you mean?" She asks.

"His eyes went dark orange." I say.

"I didn't see any change." She says.

"I swear they changed." I tell her.

"Maybe you were just imagining it. You just woke up." Lilly reasons.

"Maybe." I agree. I swear they were a dark orange. 

"You want to just go to our next class? Bell's gonna ring in a few minutes." She asks.

"Sure." I say. We leave the bathroom and head to our next class as the bell rings. The class goes by quickly and we go to our third hour. One more hour till lunch. My stomach growls as we sit down.

"I take it you're hungry." Lilly chuckles.

"Very." I tell her. She reaches in her small bag.

"Here." She hands me a chocolate bar. "It'll hold you over."

"Thanks." I smile and start eating the chocolate. Class starts and when it ends we walk out of class. 

"You're gonna have to follow through and help us with math." Lilly says. 

"Ya." 

"You get food I'll sit with the others." She says.

"You aren't eating?" I question.

"We eat at home." She answers.

"Oh." She goes to the table with the others and I get in line for food. They're all so nice. I get my food and sit next to Lilly at the round table. 

"Question." Ace says. "Is Mirstone as crazy as the internet makes it seem?"

"You could say that." I tell her. "A few years ago some kids with super powers showed up out of nowhere then they disappeared. Killed with like 4 other people."

"Oh the people in the news with telekinesis and speed." Chase says.

"Ya, only the speedy guy didn't die. As far as we know. The last time he was seen was a streak going past the next town over." I smile.
