Of course, he's here. Why would I think he wouldn't be here? His father is very important in the business world and obviously knows Rick and Carol.
He looks different. Well obviously, I haven't seen him in almost ten years, of course, he looks different, he's all grown up. He's standing by a man I do not recognize and Grayson is much taller than the man and very well built. He's wearing a tailored black suit that fits him perfectly. He looks nice in that suit. What am I saying? He wanted nothing to do with me. He never called, visited, or even wrote. He left me in the dark.
We keep eye contact before he starts walking over to me. I can't do this right now, I can't talk to him. What would I even say? "Hi, I haven't seen you in almost ten years and that really sucks because you were my one and only best friend." I have to get out of here. I stand quickly and excuse myself from the table. Where should I go? I can't go inside because I don't know the place and it would be rude if I just walked around their home. Maybe I can slip into the woods? No father would kill me if he saw-
"Angelica? Is that you"
Shit.
I turn around where I am met with the same gray eyes that I so vividly remember.
"Grayson! Wow, I haven't seen you in forever." What! Why am I acting like this? I need to be passive. He left me.
"Yeah it has been a long time, how are you? I heard you were back in New York. Are you here to stay?"
This is what we're doing? we're going to act like he didn't leave me in the dust with no explanation at all.
"Yes I am here to stay, I just turned eighteen and I moved back in with my father before I start college." Why am I even giving him an explanation?
"Wow, college. Well, that makes sense you were always the smartest girl I knew. Where do you plan on going to college?"
I need to change this conversation and get away from him as fast as possible.
"I'm not sure. I have received a couple of acceptance letters so I will be choosing from them. I'm taking a year off first so I can figure everything out." Change the conversation. "How's your father?"
Grayson shifts uncomfortably.
"Oh, I'm guessing you didn't get the news. He passed away four years ago when I was eighteen."
What! Why didn't no one tell me? Now I feel horrible. This conversation is not working out in my favor.
"I'm so sorry to hear that. I had no idea."
"You're dad didn't tell you?"
"No, he never mentioned any of his business partners to me. What have you been doing since?"
"Well, I'm now currently running the company. My father passed it down to me since I was his only child."
"Really? I remember when we were kids you would always tell me you never wanted to do this." I can't help but chuckle. The small timid boy who hated everything business is now huge and muscular and is running a business.
"Well, I guess I learned to love it."
He looks down until his eyes are locked on my chest. Is he staring at my boobs?
"The necklace." He says.
Shit, I totally forgot I was wearing the necklace. The necklace he gave me before I left. He probably thinks I'm so desperate. I knew it was a bad idea to wear this necklace.
"Yeah, it um went with my dress so I decided to wear it."
Before he could say anything the announcer speaks out to the crowd.
