"Grayson?" I press.
"A plane accident," he quips out while looking at the other pictures.
"At the wedding, you said 'Do you really think your mom died in a plane crash' obviously you dont think she did, so how did she?"
"Angelica, I was mad and I don't know what I was talking about," he says without looking at me. I stand up and rip the picture out of his hand and throw it across the room.
"You wouldn't have said it if you didnt know what you were talking about. I'm going to ask you one more time. What happened to my mother?" I scream at him. He stands up and puts his hands on my shoulders trying to calm me, I shake them off and walk towards the door.
"Where are you going?"
"To find my father, if you're not going to tell me then he will."
"Angelica, are you crazy or ignorant. Do you really think going to your dad angry asking about his dead wife will get you anywhere?" He's right, I dont think I would actually ask him about my mother, we never talk about her so it would be odd if I walked into his study and randomly asked how my mother died. I turn around and look at him with an angry expression. I take a deep breath and try to calm myself down. Once I feel a little better I open my eyes and stare at Grayson.
"Grayson, you know what happened, please- please tell me," I say quilty. I walk over to my bed and sit as he walks over too. he sits next to me and rubs my back while I put my head on his shoulder. After we sit there for a few minutes he starts talking.
"One night, a few weeks after my dad passed away I came over here to grab some papers and ask your dad for help since I was left with so much and still wasn't 100 percent sure on how to run everything. When I walked into your dad's study he was sitting at his desk drinking, he looked up at me with a drowsy look but I could see the pain behind his eyes. My dad was one of his best friends. I remember selfishly thinking to myself that he knows how I felt when I was told I wasn't allowed to see my best friend anymore, it was almost as if you actually did die, but once I saw what he was looking at I felt nothing but empathy for him. He was looking at a picture of him, your mom, and my dad when they were younger. Your dad had his arm around your mom while he had his hand on my dad's shoulder. Next to that picture was a picture of what I was assuming the day you were born, Your mom was holding you while your dad looked at you with pure adoration in his eyes.
Graysons POV - 2 years earlier
"She was so beautiful, so full of life and light. So young, and I took that away from her." It's obvious Fransesco is drunk. Maybe I should leave him in peace. "She never wanted this. She wanted to raise the kids far away from here, her dream was Italy. She hated this business and everything about it. She didn't want her kids tangled up in it, Now look at us. She's probably shaking her head at me from heaven." I notice a tear running down his face so I decide to sit down, I'm actually surprised he has said so much. Carlo and Bruno once told me he never talks about Julia.
"You should've seen the excitement on her face when we found out she was having a girl. She's always wanted one, not that she didn't love Calo and Bruno but she would always tell me how she couldn't wait to dress up a miniature her and play tea party with her, little does she know it all happened, just without her." He sniffles a few times before drowning his drink and pouring another one. I notice his dilated pupils meaning he has had quite a few to drink but stay silent and continue listening to him. "Poor Angel, I know it was hard growing up without a mother, she had Sylvia but we all knew it wasn't the same. I was a shitty father, I mean for fuck's sake I took her away from her only friend and shipped her to California." I flinch at his words as I remember the sad look on the little girls face when I told her I couldn't see her anymore. "You and me both know it's for her protection, but I wish she knew that. I know she will always despise me for taking her away. After Julia was killed they were always after her, they knew she would be my weak spot and would go straight after her." Killed? Julia was killed? I remember asking my dad about her, instead of answering the question he explained to me that this business isn't dangerous for only us, but for our family. People will do anything to hurt us even if it means hurting our loved ones. Fransesco finally looks me in the eyes, there's nothing in his eyes just darkness and tears. "Grayson, I never wanted to intentionally send her away, I just want to let you know that. I had to.
