When I get home I am livid. I can't even keep track of my thoughts they are going through my head so fast. I know my father and I know he is not a dangerous man, he would do anything to protect his family not put them in danger.12 years earlier:
"Oh trust me I think this exchange will bring in alot of money." daddy said.
"You have to understand Fransesco, these men are dangerous. We've never worked with them before, what if they try something?"
"Then we will come back ten times harder. They should know not to mess with me by now."
I creep into the office when daddy and his friend leave. I love sitting behind his desk it makes me feel grownup. He has so much paperwork everywhere, how does he do it every day? All of this paperwork has so many big words. He must be so smart.
"Angelica? There you are. What are you doing in here angel?" He walks over and spins me around in this chair as our giggles fill the room. "Are you playing grownup again, I told you, you should stay young forever. The adult world is no fun."
"I know daddy, but I cant wait to be just like you."
I walk towards his office doors. When I walk in it has the same smell it has always had. It's a mix between his musky cologne and lemon. A weird mix but it smells like home. I sit behind his desk like old times. It feels foreign. My thoughts go back to what Grayson says. The mafia. I've never sincerely felt in danger, arent mafia men supposed to be dangerous?
I try to open his desk drawers. Locked, of course they are. I turn on his office computer, obviously, there is a password. I know his password, it's been the same since I was born. Angel0518
What do I go to first, email? I click the Gmail icon on the desktop. Looking through his email I find it's all business. Legal business. All I see are things about his clubs and hotels and whatnot, nothing illegal, so Grayson was lying to me. I stand up and walk towards the door until I remember something. The safe.
I turn towards the closet in his office. Behind the coats is a huge safe. I put in the password 0518 and turn the knob, There was never much in there, just some money and a family picture. This time when I open it there's alot more than just money. The whole bottom is stacked full of money, why does he have all of this money stacked in her like this? On the side of the safe is hanging a small key, this must be the key to the desk drawers.
I walk back over to the desk and sit in his chair. The drawer in the middle is full of pens and pencils, why would he lock up all of this? I go to the right first. The first drawer is full of paperwork about his business, so is the one underneath it. I go on the other side expecting the same thing. The top drawer is full of manilla folders, I take all of them out. They all have names I have never seen before. I open the first one. First, there's a picture of a strange man with weird tattoos on his face. There's a whole page of information on this guy Dexter Woods.
Suspicious partner, late deliveries, always provide.
Underneath that one was another guy Roberto Gonzales.
Always on time, reliable business partner, trustworthy.
Every folder is full of men who are either reliable or not reliable. I go to the next drawer where there are three folders. Angelica Llaria Acardi, Bruno Matt Acardi, Carlo Fransesco Acardi. I open mine, why would he have a folder with all of his kid's names on it. The first thing I see is two pictures. The first one is my senior year school picture, the next one is when I was in California window shopping. the angle looks like it was taken from a car. Was someone following me? The first paper is all of my records, but the next ones are email print outs from the past year.
Miss. Acardi does not leave Mrs. Acardi (Grandma's house) often. She does go out alone but is always driven by T.J. after talking to T.J. I was informed that no danger has come towards her since the last accident in April.
I shudder thinking about that accident, but how does he know about that? Does father have someone following me everywhere I go? I read over the other emails and realize they were sent to a different email that Father uses for business. I go back on his computer and click back on his email. Once I click on the icon there is another email he can switch too. luckily there's no need for a password. Email after email it all starts to make sense. Shipments, money, hitman, was Grayson right? He has to be, there's proof right in front of my eyes. My phone goes off with a text from Bruno.
Hey, I heard you went home because you didn't feel good. I dont know if you're still up but we're on our way home.<3
I quickly put all of the folders back and lock the drawers, I put the key back in the safe and make sure everything looks exactly how it was when I first walked in. I run to my bedroom and change into pajamas before they get here. I sit on my bed and try to take everything in.
"It was to keep you safe."
"Your dad told me he would tell you."
"It's all a lie."
"The mafia."
